Aathi - Rollicking rhythms

Music Review
IndiaGlitz [Friday, December 30, 2005]

Ramana, Vijay and Vidyasagar had teamed up together to render a musical hit in Thirumalai about a couple of years ago.

Now the trio is back with Aathi, which has five catchy numbers set to tunes by Vidyasagar.
Quite typical to Vijay's earlier films, Aathi has predominantly foot-tapping and racy numbers. For such songs the usual suspects of Anuradha Sreeram, S P Balasubramaniam, Tippu, Karthik and Sujatha have come together.

Olli Olli Iduppae (Karthik, Anuradha Sriram)
A rocking beginning for the album. A vibrant Anuradha Sreeram and an energetic Karthik belt out a zinger of a song. The rhythms are heavy. Understandably so. The Punjabi beats set your beats going. The pulsation is splendid. Vidyasagar shows that he has a way with mass appeal songs.

Lealakku Lealakku Leala (Kay Kay, Sujatha) This is also a thundering song that tries to fuse western and the rural music. A typical village beat coupled with a western orchestration is the highlight. More than the tune, Vidyasagar's shrewd orchestration stands apart. Sujatha, with her natural melody, and Kay Kay, with a spontaneous flow, give a good account of themselves.

Thadakku Thadakku (Hariharan, Sujatha)
The Hindustani inspiration is obvious. Hariharan is on home turf as fleshes out the nuances in the tune brilliantly. His voice stands rock solid as he goes through the higher octave with aplomb. Sujatha is more than an able foil to him. The highlight of the song is the use of tabla and flute at appropriate places by Vidyasagar. The brisk pace of the tune also adds an extra allure.

Athi Athikka (SP Balasubramaniam, Sadhana Sargam)
A music-director can relax if he has a singer like S P Balasubramaniam at his command. And SPB is at his commanding best, even though the tune is not the most original. The song deserves a special mention for it has less instrumentation and does not over ride the lyrics.

Yeai Durra (Tippu, Syndhavi)
Sure to bring the roof down is this foot-tapping number. Vidyasagar seems to have used all percussion instruments on earth to get the right feel for such a racy number. It is a rocking number that will have Vijay’s fans bringing the roof down.

Aathi - Action all the way

IndiaGlitz [Tuesday, December 27, 2005]

After the success of Thirumalai, director Ramana joins hands with Vijay again for his next Aathi, which is a remake of the Telugu hit Atanokkade.

Vijay has always relished doing remakes and movies like Ninaithen Vandhai, Priyamanavale and Gilli have done wonders to his career.

His father and veteran director S A Chandrasekhara is producing Aathi.

The pairing of Vijay-Trisha is highly popular following their success of Gilli and Thirupachi. Sai Kumar, who has made strides as a hero in Telugu and Kannada films, tries his hand as a villain.

'It's a nice feeling to be part of a film involving Vijay, Vidyasagar. I have done my best to dish out a different brand', Ramana says.

On the difficulty involved in doing remakes, Ramana says, 'when doing remakes, one has to meet the expectations already generated. Anything short of that will not be accepted. That is the only pressure but it has only made me sit tight and do one better.'

Speaking about the film, Vijay says, 'I play college student in Aathi. The movie has good action, romance and sentiments to attract my fans. Trisha gives me company in the movie'.

The supporting cast includes Prakash Raj, Vijayakumar, Nasser, Manivannan, Livingston and Seetha, among others.

Slated for a release this Pongal, the movie has couple of songs shot in Switzerland.

Vijay: “Prince of Tamil Cinema”

December 27, 2005

Vijay’s Adi had a shooting schedule in Hyderabad. Vijay was overwhelmed by the number of fans who had gathered to see the shooting. Meanwhile, Tamil sangam in Hyderabad conferred the title "Prince of Tamil Cinema" on Vijay. A visibly happy Vijay stated that he had to thank director Ramana for his new found action image. Thirumalai was the movie which laid the foundation for his second innings.

Vijay has been taking extra care in the stunt sequences of the movie. In one action sequence Vijay jumped from a high bridge without any double. In another scene he had to run opposite a speeding train for nearly 2 kilo meters. Vijay did the scene himself even when the tracks were very slippery. Adi’s crew including director Ramana was left speechless by Vijay’s involvement.

Vijay gets pat from Vikram

By MIO Team
Dec 24, 2005, 09:24

Many people who have said that Vikram and Vijay are not in good terms have to eat their own words now. They are very professional and seem to be comfortable with each other. Vikram even went to the extent of praising the actor to the skies.

Vikram released the audio of Vijay's film 'Aadhi' on December 22. Lead actors of the film Vijay and Trisha didn't attend the function but Vikram and Sonia Agarwal were there to add glamour. Vikram said that Vijay looks very handsome in 'Aadhi' and would like to ask him the secrets behind it.

He is confident that 'Aadhi' will run for 250 days and celebrate silver jubilee, pointing that he released the audio of 'Gilli' and went on to become a big hit. The villain of the film Saikumar also spoke high of hero Vijay.

Director Ramana thanked the producer of the film S A Chandrasekaran for giving him the chance to showcase his talents. Vidyasagar composed the tunes of the album. The film is scheduled to hit the theatres on Pongal.

Well, Vikram has shut all the speculations that he doesn't get along well with Vijay. In fact, he has shown the upcoming actors the importance of healthy competition.

Trisha and Vijay in Arakku Valley

Not a soul around in Arakku Valley. Yellow flowers sprouting in clusters; Trisha, like a wild mynah among the yellow flowers, with Vijay like a romancing parrot.

If you take this tale to Vijay's home, you will get a bang on the head. All this happened in the shooting of 'Aathi'.

With the idea of shooting the song sequence for "ippa illaatti eppo..." differently for Pa. Vijay's lyrics set to tune by Vidyasagar, director Ramana has taken Trisha and Vijay to Aarakku Valley.

The song was shot with the hero and heroine in close range among the gigantic dam, sprouting sandy islets and huge boulders. When it rained in the valley of yellow flowers, it started raining and Trisha was made to get drenched in the rain. This was again captured beautifully by cameraman Sounderrajan.

What is to be noted is that they have used three new types of cameras to shoot this song.

Aathi On Location

Aathi

(Vijay, Trisha, Saikumar, Vijay Kuamr, Prakashraj, Amita, Nasser, Sneha Nambiar, Livinston, Malavika, Rajan P. Dev, Manivannan, Rajkapur, Damu, Sita, Vivek)

After doing a couple of straight films, Vijay turns to a remake - Aathi - to be directed by Ramana, who had teamed up with Vijay earlier to give the superhit `Thirumalai'.

Aathi is the remake of the successful Telugu film, `Athathanokkadey', which had Kalyanram, grandson of NTR, playing the hero.

Vijay is paired with Trisha in the Tamil film, this coming after their pairing for `Gilli' and `Thirupachi'.

Vijay plays Aathi, a college student living in a joint family. How the peace in the household is shattered by the machinations of a man, and how Aathi carries out his vendetta against him, forms the core of the film.

Saikumar plays the villain of the piece. Playing Aathi's grandfther is Vijay Kumar, while the parents are played by Prakashraj and Amita. The others in the cast are Nasser, Sneha Nambiar, Livinston, Malavika, Rajan P. Dev, Manivannan, Rajkapur, Damu and Sita. Vivek has been roped in for comedy.

A romantic song was picturised on Vijay and Trisha on a set designed at a cost of Rs 40 lakh. Accompanying them were 50 dancers and a crowd comprising about 75 children and some junior artistes.

The film, Vijay's home production, has music by Vidyasagar, and is scheduled for a Pongal release.

Aadhi : Derelict temple comes into limelight

December 23, 2005

Copyright: behindwoods.com

S A Chandrasekhar's home production Vijay starrer Aadhi is getting ready for release. The post-production work is going at a feverish pitch. The last song was shot recently at Switzerland. Reports say that cast – Vijay and Trisha had a wonderful time during the shoot. Much of the movie was shot in Chennai, Ginjee, Vizakhapatnam, and Hyderabad.

The crew was amazed by a derelict temple that they found in Ginjee. With a great difficulty, permission was obtained to shoot in the temple. One more thing special about Aadhi is papa Chandrasekhar had not interfered in the direction at all. Ask director Ramana if you want.

'Aathi' will enter Silver Jubilee, predicts Vikram

'Aathi' will enter Silver Jubilee, predicts Vikram
- 23.12.2005

People who complain about the enmity among actors should have attended `Aathi' function; their mouths would be plastered shut. This film, Vijay's own production will be a feast for Pongal.

The songs were released yesterday as a feast for the ears till then. This function was held at Green Park hotel in Vadapalani. Director Ramana has shown his creativity to book the `Pallavi' hall for this function. Both the hero Vijay and heroine Trisha did not attend the function. When we were about to raise that point, entered Vikram and Sonia Agarwal.

Filling the absence of Vijay aptly, Vikram released the cassette which was received by Sonia Agarwal."Vijay is very handsome in `Aathi'. I have to find out how from him. I was the one who released the cassette of `Gilli'. It went on to become a great hit. Similarly I am confident that `Aathi will run for 250 days and celebrate Silver Jubilee. I am already reserving that day for it."
Such sincere remarks from Vikram prompted producer S A Chandrasekaran, (sorry, according to numerology it is S A Chandrasekara) to look for the Silver Jubilee date. The film's villain Saikumar attended the function and spoke sky high about Vijay. Attended by the producers A V M Balasubramaniam, A L Alagappan and distributor Anbu Chezhian, the function saw director Ramana getting emotional while thanking SAC for giving him an opportunity to direct the film.

The function got started with Shoba Chandrasekaran lighting the lamp. As Five Star Audio Kalyan was giving vote of thanks, Sangeetha, the light of Vijay's life, hurried in.

Puli inspired by Punisher?

IndiaGlitz [Wednesday, December 21, 2005]

Movies inspired by Hollywood are nothing new in Kollywood.

S J Suryah's New was inspired by The Big while Ghajini was an take off of an American movie Memento.

In fact, it is to the directors' credit that made those scripts work here with suitable modifications.

Now, the buzz is Puli, which would have Vijay and Asin in the lead roles, is reportedly inspired by the movie Punisher which had Tom Jane in the cast.

Punisher was an action thriller with lots of stunts, gunplay and explosions.

Tom Jane plays an FBI Special agent who overcomes the villains with his intelligence and determination.

Interestingly Vijay plays the cop for the first time in big screen. It is said that Punisher would have necessary correction to suit the audience in Tamil.

Meanwhile Vijay is now shooting a song sequence for Athi in Switzerland along with Trisha.

Athi would grace the theatres this Pongal.

Vijay's secrecy for youthfulness

Rajinikanth is the torchbearer for the actors of this generation. This became evident in a recent event organized to honor Vijay. He received the award for his splendid performance in Ghilli. The show's emcee asked him the secret of his youthfulness and he credited his mother and wife for it. He said that he was free to concentrate on his career leaving aside the pressures of running the home.

Since his mind felt free of all burdens, his persona was youthful. The host shot another question about the rising comedy element in his portrayals and the Ilaya thalapathy acknowledged the profound influence our Superstar had on him. Vijay said that Rajini has achieved much success after he incorporated comedy in his roles and he was following the same technique.

Aathi - Music Review by Sai Anand

Aadhi : Music Review
Here is my review of Aadhi's songs! Remember, these are my opinion and also after just the first listen!

1. Athi Athika - SP Balasubramanian, Sadhana Sargam
This is the best song of the album! No doubt about it! Probably one of the most cute compositions that I have listened to in recent times! SPB's voice throws anyone into a free flowing dream and Sadhana's credentials are very well known. Vidyasagar has created magic with this song!
THIS IS THE BEST SONG OF THIS ALBUM & WILL BE A MEGA-HIT! WATCH IT!
Rating : 10 / 10

2. Enna Konja Konja Vaa - Hariharan, Sujatha
Good start to the song with those percussion instruments! Hariharan is at his best as usual and Sujatha also does a very good job! But this song reminds me of two melody songs from Vijay's previous film "Nenjinile" and "Minsara Kanna". Probably is it because this is SAC production (remember SAC was the director of Nenjinile and Minsara Kanna!)
Rating : 8 / 10

3. Iruvar Vazhum - Karthik, Kalyani
Another soft melody song from Karthik and Kalyani! Doesnt impress me much on the first listen but this song might catch on to the melody listeners after a few hearings! Both the singers do a good job but will definitely take time to get used to!
Rating : 6 / 10

4. Lealukku Lea - Kay Kay, Sujatha
A naughty type song sung by both Kay Kay and Sujatha! Sounds a good song for Vijay's naughtiness to come to the fore! Good work by Vidyasagar here also! This song is surely foot tapping and is enjoyable for all - kids and all audience!
Rating : 8.5 / 10

5. Ippo Illati Ippo - Tippu, Sindhavi
A goos folk type song sung by Tippu and supporting him here in Sindhavi! Finally gives us a real feel of what a Vijay album is all about! Good work again by Vidyasagar and can be a hit with the picturization. Probably the song where Vijay and Trisha are clad in orange costumes!
Rating : 9 / 10

Overall : A good album not only for Vijay fans but for the overall audience! In fact, some Vijay fans might not overtly favor this one but will be liked by music lovers for the melody involved! A refreshing change for a Vijay album.

Vijay flexes his muscles one more time

By MIO Team
Dec 19, 2005, 09:36

Maybe hero Vijay wants to prove that action speaks louder than words. His earlier film with director Ramana titled 'Thirumalai' was filled with action. He is joining hands with the director for yet another action-packed film titled 'Aadhi'.

The director revealed that the villain gang destroys a big but happy family in the film, except Aadhi, who escapes from the rowdies. He added that Aadhi is all out to take revenge on the killers of his family when the right opportunity strikes, as he is hurt and wounded. The dialogues between the hero and villain are said to be forceful.

'Aadhi' is the remake of Telugu hit film 'Athanokkate'. Trisha acts opposite Vijay in the film and Vijay's father S.A.Chandersekar is the producer.

Now, Vijay wants action do the talking one more time. Yes, he should do well with pretty Trisha by his side.

Aathi crew in Switzerland

After completing a hectic schedule in Hyderabad, the Aathi crew left to Switzerland with Vijay and Trisha on Friday for a duet song shoot. The whole crew were booked in Delta airlines enroute Paris.Brinda master is incharge of Choreography.

Vijay -Trisha is freezing!

By Moviebuzz
Monday, 19 December , 2005, 12:05

The trouble that our superstars take to get the perfect song picturisation is reaching new heights. Vijay and Trisha are now shooting for a song at Interlaken, a popular resort town in Swiss Alps where the temperature is -5 degree!!

Last Friday the unit of Aathi left for Switzerland from Chennai where it was raining heavily and the temperature was around 28 degree. Speaking to Moviebuzz from Zurich airport, Trisha said: “It was the most beautiful sight while we landed here. All white snow around but I will have to get into my woolens and thermals as it is freezing out here”.

From Zurich airport it is a three-hour drive to Interlaken, deep in Swiss Alps a resort known for its spectacular skiing facilities. Remember that it was here that Pierce Brosnan has done skiing scenes escaping from villains in a “James Bond” film.

Well, Vijay and Trisha are shooting a melody song tuned by Vidyasagar written by Pa Vijay which goes like – “Olli olli iduppae..Odiyanam ethukku.. Otha viral mothiram podumadi athukku…., which is sure to be a chartbuster. This song is choreographed by Brinda and costumes are by Nalini Sriram.

Vijay to take revenge for his family

As we all know, Aadhi is a remake of the Telugu movie Athnakkode and it has Vijay and Trisha in the lead roles. The story of this movie is that Aadhi is a college going guy but his heart is raging to wreak revenge on the villains who ruined his family.

Aadhi lives in a big family which includes Vijayakumar as grand father, Prakash Raj as his father with Livingston, Sneha Nambiar, Amitha, Nassar and Malavika as the other members in his family. Trisha is Vijay's classmate. Aadhi, one of the Pongal releases is all set to be a rocker.

Bhagavathi in Telugu?

Bhagavathi in Telugu?

Dubbing of Tamil movies in Telugu has been bringing in real good revenue. Examples of that are Anniyan, Chandramukhi and Ghajini. Vijay's film Bhagavathi that was released few years back is to be dubbed in Telugu and to be a Pongal release. This is new news that Vijay is doing a Telugu remake. His other films have been dubbed but with different actors. Hoping that this brings success, too.

Can you guess secret of Vijay’s youthful looks?

Saturday December 17 2005 15:33 IST
Malini Mannath
Copyright: www.newindpress.com

Good or bad, panned by critics or praised by them, it doesn't seem to make any difference to the fate at the box-office of Vijay-starrers. Sivakasi is nothing but Gillie and Thirupachi rehashed, agreed everyone. But the film is a hit at the box-office, easily the top of the slot among Diwali releases.

Incidentally, at an awards function, Prabhu quipped that he had a Vijay fans association in his own house. The actor explained that his own daughter, and his nephew actor Dushyanth were all fans of Vijay. And when Prabhu wanted to know the secret of Vijay's growing youthful looks, despite the passage of time, Vijay's reply was its because of my mom and my wife.

If the household is a blissful happy one, it reflects on the face!

Aathi for Pongal

Aathi for Pongal

Courtesy: Galatta.com

S.A. Chandrasekaran, under the banner of Suryan Arts, is bringing Aathi to theatres by Pongal 2006. Aathi is the 25th year in films for S.A. Chandrasekaran, whose son Vijay is the hero. He is joined by Trisha, who proved lucky in their earlier movies Gilli and Thirupatchi. Director Ramanna has given a hit with Vijay in Thirumalai. Aathi is scheduled for a Pongal release. It is a remake of the popular Telugu Blockbuster Athana Okkade which starred Kalyan Ram opposite Sindhu Tholani. Shooting is almost complete and has been in Visakhapatnam (for the Andhra touch of the original) and Tamil Nadu.

Ramanna says that this will be another blockbuster action movie for Vijay and the entire team is very happy with the manner in which the movie has shaped up.

The movie is about the hero moving to a city to study and also the heroine and her family. They go to the same college, share the same tastes and have one common ambition - to defeat the local dada and his henchmen. Flashbacks reveal that they are relatives, their families were punished and humiliated by the villain, and now they are out to take revenge. Action scenes are fantastic, suspense builds up, and a tempo is maintained with a surprise ending.

Vijay has a secret desire

Vijay has a secret desire
By MIO Team
Nov 29, 2005, 09:42

Actor Vijay has a secret desire that nobody would expect. He is not dreaming to become a leader or aspiring to become as rich as Bill Gates. He is practical and just wants to grasp the things that his hands could reach out to. Believe it or not, his only desire is to do a dual role in a movie.

Vijay made a name for himself with 'Thirumalai' and the success of films like 'Gilli', 'Madurey', 'Thirupachi' and now 'Sivakasi' has made him a hot hero. But he is yet to fulfill his only desire. He revealed that his secret dream is to do a duel role in a film. And he is hoping to fulfill this desire at least by next year.

The actor is however undeterred by the allegation that he does only stereotype roles. He said that he does what his fans want from him, and that they like him doing mass roles. He also revealed that he is going to do the role of a cop in a film next year.

Politics seems to be not his cup of tea. He said that he doesn't like politics and would rather continue acting.

Well, Vijay has revealed it all including his secret desire. Will someone come up with a double role script for this actor?
