Kuruvi races @ the UK BO
May 29, 2008
While the Chennai box office has given the cold shoulder to the Vijay – Trisha starrer Kuruvi, the distributors who bought the international rights of the movie seem to have reasons to smile. Over the last weekend (May 23 - 25, 2008) Kuruvi has recorded decent collections at the UK box office and garnered an approximate of one Crore in total in returns in the last four weeks of its release.
The other movies in contention were the Emran Hashmi Jannat, Amitabh starrer Bhoothnath, Saif starrer Tashan, and the Ajay Devgan starrer U Me aur Hum. Kuruvi is still running to average houses in two screens in the United Kingdom.

Thanks to Ilayathalapathy Vijay’s star power at the box-office, more number of prints, bigger screens and no major opposition, Kuruvi holds on in its third weekend to the number one slot, by a whisker thin margin over the summer hit Santosh Subramaniyan. At number three is Narnia-2 in English and Tamil which opened in a dozen screens. Arasangam which took an impressive opening holds on in the fourth position. Kuruvi's tashan kills Bollywood's Tashan
In a box office survey in UK, it was seen that Kuruvi amassed more than Tashan. In a Top-20-films survey, Tashan was at No. 15 (and was only one week old) before Kuruvi made its debut in the UK. After release, Kuruvi took Tashan's spot in the Top 20 list andTashan dropped down to 18. This rating is based on boxoffice collections. Kuruvi collected $152,431 in four days, whereas Tashan managed to collect only about $110,607 in its entire second week.

Chennai Box-Office (May 09-11)
Tuesday, 13 May , 2008, 12:30
The box-office is jittery as highly hyped films are taking lukewarm openings and the star pull is decreasing. Vijay's Kuruvi is tottering at the box –office, but due to lack of strong opposition, the film continues to be at the number one slot. At number two is Santosh Subramaniyam, which is the hot favourite of the family audiences. In the third position is Vijaykanth's Arasangam, which surprised the trade by taking a very good opening (82 per cent) in seven Chennai screens. In the fourth position is NTR's Kantri, which is a hit and in the fifth position is Yaaradi Nee Mohini
