Prabhu Solomon's desire
Prabhu Solomon's next venture
February 27, 2007
After the success of Lee which featured Sibi Raj and Nila in the lead roles, director Prabhu Solomon has decided to remake M.G.R's Ayirathil Oruvan with Vijay in the lead role.
Ayirathil Oruvan featured our ex-chief minister J.Jayalalitha as M.G.R.'s jodi.
Stay tuned to Galatta.com for further updates on that.

Box Office Analysis
Mozhi, Paruthi Veeran rock
The battle at the box - office this February has been a royale one. A host of films including biggies hit the screens and the race for supremacy was at its peak.
Move over Pongal releases, the films that hit the screens this 'Valentine month' witnessed good crowds. The likes of Lee starring Sibiraj and Nila, Jayam Ravi starrer Deepavali, director Gowtham's Pachaikili Muthucharam, Prakash Raj's home production Mozhi and director Ameer's Paruthi Veeran hit the screens.
Interestingly all the movies opened big. However, expectations were high on Mozhi and Paruthi Veeran.
It was a perfect beginning for Studio Greens' Paruthi Veeran and Mozhi from Prakash Raj’s stable. The former, a debut film of Karthi (Suriya's sibling), directed by Ameer has taken a fantastic opening all over Tamil Nadu. Usually, films of debutantes do not have a great opening. This film has successfully re-written the norms and opened to packed houses. It is witnessing housefull shows in rural centres too. The technical excellence in the film coupled with the stupendous performances of the stars has won the movie great accolades. Word-of-mouth publicity about this film is high and this film is not just being critically acclaimed, it is also proving to be a big commercial success.
Not far behind is Mozhi.
Prithviraj's elegant performance and Jyothika's effervescent histrionics as a deaf and dumb girl are the talking points of the movie. A noteworthy aspect of this film is the dialogues which combine sensibility and sensitivity. Director Radha Mohan’s films have always been dialogue-oriented and his forte seems to be blending light-hearted humour in a shrewd storyline. Interestingly, both Paruthi Veeran and Mozhi carry good reviews and the good run is expected to continue without a hitch.
Pachaikili Muthucharam shows Sarath Kumar, the mass hero, in a totally different light. While the attention grabbing factor for A centres is Gowtham Menon, for B and C it is Sarath Kumar. Not to forget, this shows Jyothika in a different role too and she has done her role with aplomb. The film is having a decent run.
Shrewd publicity and persistent hardwork which is apparent in Sibiraj’s performance have worked for Lee. This is Sathyaraj’s first production and director Prabhu Solomon’s second directorial venture, after he got a good name with Kokki. All these seem to have worked in the film’s favour and the film is doing reasonably well. This film is safe stake and no one is injured in the game.
Lee is reportedly drawing steady crowds thanks to the director and the producer who are opting for various avenues to reach out to the movie-buffs.
Director Lingusamy's maiden production venture Deeppavali is doing well particularly in the A centre. This romantic and clean entertainer has won the admiration of the youngsters. A big plus of this film is the performance of the lead stars Jayam Ravi and Bhavana, music by Yuvan Shankar Raja and a climax which is not clichéd. Ezhil, who is known for his feel-good love stories, has arrived into the scene again with this film. Good publicity has helped this film’s cause to a major extent.
Meanwhile, though a Pongal release, Vijay's Pokkiri is still drawing good crowds. A remake of the Telugu blockbuster titled the same, the movie directed by Prabhudeva is a mass film and thanks to Vijay fans- the film has been maintaining a good run. A racy screenplay and action which is aplenty, has helped the film retain its charm despite many newfound competitors. There are enough and more ingredients in the film that keeps the audience happy-Vijay’s action, a fast-paced narrative, an alluring Asin and peppy music.
However, there is a threat now and it is all set to come in the form of annual examinations and the World Cup cricket match, which would kick off early next month. The cricket frenzy is already catching up and this is worrying news for those in the industry.
But then, nothing can be predicted for sure at this stage. All that we can do now is this- Wait and watch! We will do just that and keep hoping that there is no slump in the collections for the films.
Vijay's double treat in Azhagiya Tamil Magan
February 27, 2007
Vijay gets twosome with his upcoming Azhagiya Tamil Magan. If buzz around the sets of ATM can be believed, Vijay dons a double role for the movie. Off-tracking from his customary action hero tag, Vijay's character(s) in his upcoming movie will provide ample scope for the actor to perform.
No wonder Vijay is flanked by both Shreya and bombshell Namitha for the movie, now we think. Rumors also state that one of Vijay's roles in the movie has Extra Sensory Power - which lets an individual to see through the future. One can only imagine that this will increase the scope for a few interesting twists in the movie that guarantees to put the viewers on the edge of the seat.
Directed by Bharathan, Azhagiya Tamil Magan is progressing at top gear in and around Chennai these days. The movie is slated for a mid 2007 release.

`Pokkiri` ahead, but `VV` is the winner!
Sunday, 25 February , 2007, 15:33
It may sound bizarre, Vijay’s Pokkiri is a bigger hit, than Kamal’s Vettayadu Vilayadu, but at the box-office the latter is the winner!
How did this anomaly happen? Simple – mathematics! Ticket rates controlled by the state government are only 60-70 percent of what prevailed during the free market rates at the time of release of Vetayadu Vilayadu!
More audience have watched Pokkiri than Vetayadu Vilayadu in Tamilnadu, but is not reflected at the box-office collections. Says Meenaxi Sundaram, Manager of Mayajaal Multiplex on ECR in Chennai: “ Vetayadu Vilayadu, was seen by 31,293 audiences in 57 days run, while Pokkiri has already been seen by 31,419 audiences in 42 days (till Feb24) and still running”.

Vijay honors CM's grandson with shawl at function!
- 24.02.2007
The most number of film people are located in Madurai. A majority of fans are also there. When Vijay went to Madurai to celebrate the success of 'Pokkiri,' one could see it in person.
'Pokkiri' is being screened in Madurai's Cinepriya theatre. Since the film is doing great business, the President of Distributors Association Anbuchezhiyan wanted to felicitate Vijay. It is to be mentioned here that this same Anbuzheziyan threatened Ajith over 'Naan Kadavul.'
The Assistant Police Commissioner Kumaravel participated in the function. A special guest was M Karunandhi's grandson Durai alias Dayanidhi, the son of MK Azhagiri. Dayanidhi was all praise for Vijay and felicitated him with a shawl. In return, Vijay honored him with a shawl.
Vijay extolled the virtues of Madurai and this found great response and applause in the crowd. About 9 cows were given away by Vijay to poor people at the function. Earlier a 'gopuja' was conducted.
There was so much crowd to see Vijay that the police had to brandish their lathis to keep the crowd under control. Even though 'Pokkiri' is running in other theatres too, Vijay went only to Cinepriya.
He then left for a function at Aruppukottai where his fans had arranged for free house pattas to be distributed to the poor.
Shakila in Vijay's film!
- 24.03.2007
Having been chased out of Kerala, this glamour actress depends on this Vijay film for her comeback.
At one time, she acted with top actors like Mammootty and Mohanlal. She does not get any more comedy roles in Tamil and Telugu either. She does not want to do films that run only morning shows. Now, thanks to Vijay, she's back in the reckoning.
She has a role in 'Azhagiya Thamizhmagan' starring Vijay. She has no earth shaking role in it, it's just a small role. But she feels that even this one small role in a Vijay film could help erase her old image and set her on a new path.
She has got a nice role in a Malayalam film too. She acts as her own self as actress Shakila in a Mohanlal film. Mohanlal plays an auto driver, who is an ardent fan of Shakila. A scene where he attends a shooting of Shakila has been shot recently. Once this film is released, Shakila hopes she will get more Malayalam film offers.
May her dreams come true!
Pokkiri in Bollywood
Pokkiri, a Telugu blockbuster starring Mahesh Babu was remade in Tamil by actor-director Prabhu Deva.
The Tamil Version of the movie featured Vijay as the male lead and Asin of Ghajini fame in the female lead.
Now Boney Kapoor has got the remake rights for producing the movie in Hindi.
It will feature Salman Khan as the male lead.

Vijay donates cows
Extracting time from the busy schedules of Azhagiya Tamil Magan, Vijay found himself distributing cows to the needy in Madurai recently. Yes you heard it right; the actor gave away 9 cows in an event to celebrate the success of Pokkiri organized by his fan association in Madurai.
The event was conducted in the Cine Priya theatre in Madurai and was attended by Police Commissioner Kumaravel, distributors council head Anbuchezhiyan, and Durai - M.K. Azhagiri's son.The cow donation was preceded by the 'Kopooja' ritual performed by sanyasis.
Fans from the nearby villages gathered after news about Vijay's arrival spread. Vijay, in his speech stated that he has been doing numerous social welfare activities and donating cows is first of its kind. It is fulfilling, he added. I would have loved to visit all the theatres around Madurai that play Pokkiri, but had to visit Aruppukottai where my fans have arranged for free land distribution to the poor, he revealed.
Vijay's visit to the theatre ended up in a stampede and police charged lathi to control the crowd.
On a lighter note, Vijay's son who has been admitted to a school recently entertains his friends by enacting Vijay's punch dialogue 'Naan oru thadava mudivu pannitta, anda mudiva ennaal kooda maatha mudiyadu' from Pokkiri. Chip off the old block, eh?

All for Vijay - Namitha
After having romanced aging heroes like Sarath Kumar and Sathyaraj in her earlier films, Namitha runs after Vijay in 'Azhagiya Thamizh Magan.' Shriya is the other heroine in the film. Namitha's is a one sided love in the film.
After acting 2 days with Vijay, Namitha is all praises for him. She is full of his simplicity, measured acting, measures talking and friendly behavior. She sounds happy when she says,"There is always a kuthu song in Vijay's film that is liked by all and we are doing one such number in this film too."
For this, Namitha has given up many things. For one, she has drastically reduced her acting fee. She even gave up roles where she was the solo heroine. Why?
"It's all for Vijay!" says Namitha with a serene smile!

Vijay makes merry on colony set!
17.02.07
Director Barathan has filmed some lively scenes of Vijay and Santhanam on sets of a colony, for 'Azhagiya Thamizh Magan.'
According to Vijay, the film will appeal to the young generation. He said that at Chennai's dilapidated Binny Mills. This place has till now been used only to shoot fight scenes, but for 'Azhagiya Thamizh Magan,' art director Maniraj has put up a beautiful sets of a colony. It would remind one of a Royapettah area.
Vijay, whose name is Guru in the film, has his trademark style and punch dialogues. Shriya is called Abhinaya in the film. Like other pretty heroines, her main work is to fall in love with the hero. Namitha does the role of Priya whose love for Vijay is totally one sided!
So, would her role be something like the vamp role of Reema Sen in 'Manmadhan'? The director prefers to keep that a suspense.
Usually AR Rehman takes his time to deliver his tunes. For 'Azhagiya Thamizh Magan,' he has straight away given a tune. When Barathan played it for Vijay, the star was all praise for Rehman's talent.
This could be the basis for Vijay's next hit!

Rajini follows the Vijay way!
Don't be surprised by the title. Like Vijay, Rajini is to do something good.
Every year, Vijay donates books and notebooks to poor students and conducts weddings. He recently announced that he was to build a hospital in the name of his deceased sister for treating the poor.
Before the pupil realizes his dream, the guru has started his work.
Last week, Rajini bought an 8 acre plot at Ponneri near Gummidipoondi. It is said to have been bought for building a charity hospital. His close associates say it has been a long time dream of Rajini to build a hospital to aid the poor.
It is good news for the poor. But a long time back, Rajini had announced that he would give his Raghavendra Kalayana Mandapam to the people of Tamilnadu but nothing has happened since then. His river linking scheme is nowhere in sight.
If his charity hospital does not go the same way, it will be good news!

It was one of the biggest parties thrown in Kollywood in recent times. The anniversary celebration of ET-Madras Plus held at Park Sheraton in Chennai on Feb 10 had who's who of the industry coming together.
It has been a while since the three biggies Vijay, Vikram and Surya were seen at a same place; not to forget Simbu and Dhanush sharing few lighter moments. Sister-in-laws Sonia Selvaraghavan and Aishwarya Dhanush were seen with Trisha Krishnan having a great time.

Vijay to act in Prabhu Deva's original script?
February 14, 2007
During the making of Pokkiri, there were rumours floating in Kollywood circles that all is not well with Prabhu Deva and Vijay. It was alleged that Prabhu Deva's style of functioning was not in sync with Ilaya Thalapathy. When Vijay was questioned about his working experience with Prabhu Deva, he agreed that initially it had taken a while for him to get settled at the sets of Pokkiri.
Vijay continues, "Prabhu Deva being a perfectionist would not be satisfied very easily. His viewpoint was very very different. Although it appeared tough during the making of the film, the result of Pokkiri has lightened up all the difficult patches. Now all that remains with me is happiness and nothing but happiness".
On a question of doing another film with India's Michael Jackson, Vijay seemed ever ready. He says, "Deva is right now busy with Shankar Dada Zindabad and a few assignments in Bollywood. After he completes them, we would sure come together for another blockbuster". It is learnt that this time around Prabhu Deva might not go in for a remake; rather he would have his own script ready for Ilaya Thalabathy Vijay.

Police lathi charge in Vijay's shooting!
As too many people congregated at Vijay's shooting, the police had to resort to lathi charge.
Day before yesterday, Vijay and his 2 heroines Shriya and Namitha were present for the shooting of 'Azhagiya Thamizh Magan' directed by Bharathan, near the Kanchipuram railway station.
On hearing that Vijay was shooting there, all his fans swarmed there. Seeing namitha and Shriya was an added bonus. They pushed aside the crew and tried to shake hands and get autographs from the stars. Since all the pushing and shoving was affecting shooting, the police had to do some lathi charge to disperse the crowd.
Only after that could shooting resume. It went on from 9am to evening. The fans watched from a distance and enjoyed the shooting.

I am not loud enough – Vijay
It is true that I wanted to direct a movie someday. I still fantasize being a director, but I don't think I will fit the bill, says Vijay with a smile. I am a relaxed person and do not think I could stand the pressure of being a director, he adds further. Besides, I watch all the directors I work with and making people work is definitely not my area of expertise. Particularly I can't bring myself to talk louder, he clarifies.
While that was the case with direction, he has life-size plans to explore more in his acting career. I would love to do a James Bond remake movie in Tamil and Ulagam Suttrum Valiban is one of my all time favorites which I would not mind acting, he states. Well, now he is setting eyes on James Bond and MGR; that is not surprising.

Looks like Udaya Nidhi – grandson of the Chief Minister and son of Minister Stalin – is all set to try his hands at movie making. A young entrepreneur, Udaya Nidhi is on the verge of forming his own production company and focus his attention on movies.
Vijay and Vishal have been reportedly roped in for the two movies that are being produced by Udaya Nidhi. The as yet untitled movie starring Vijay will take off after his commitments with Azhagiya Tamil Magan are over. Vishal will be doing the second movie for Udaya Nidhi after completing his upcoming cop fling, Sathyam.
Another additional piece of information is that Vijay, Vishal, and Udaya Nidhi are friends.

'Azhagiya Thamizh Magan' in Binny Mills!
- 07.02.2007
The 'Pokkiri' Vijay has now become the 'Azhagiya Thamizh Magan.' His new antics have started in the Binny Mills.
The one line story of the film is, "He is his own enemy!" says director Bharathan. No one knows what Vijay will do in the film. So no one knows the problems either. How Vijay surmounts all those problems with his song, dance and fights is the masala combination of what the film is all about.
After Vijay returned from his overseas trip, the shooting started at Binny Mills where scenes of Vijay and Santhanam were shot by Bharathan. Scenes of Namitha and Vijay will be shot next including an energetic dance number.
Bharathan is very happy that as soon as he heard the story, AR Rehman agreed to compose the music.

Vijay Meets The Press
[Monday, February 05, 2007]
Addressing media persons in Chennai on Sunday, Vijay, said, “All credit should go to the entire team which slogged for the movie's success. In spite of criticism that it had gory violence, women are coming in large numbers to watch the film”.
On his forthcoming film Azhagiya Tamil Magan, Vijay said, “It is a humorous entertainer. Unlike other films, the hero itself is responsible for him getting into troubles. How he comes out of all the problems forms the crux of the movie.”
The shooting for Azhagiya Tamil Magan has commenced and is touted for a release this August.

Vijay spreads smile
February 5, 2007
Ilayathalapathy Vijay gave a party to his contemporary leading stars to show that they dont have any rivalry or hatred among them. Actors Ajith, Suriya, Vikram and Arya were among those who took part in this party.
Vijay is currently acting in the movie Azhakiya Tamizh Magan directed by Ghili- fame Bharathan. Abachan is producing this movie. Sivaji heroine Shriya is playing the female lead role.
Sources say, Vijay will be acting in the movie being produced by Tamil Nadu Minister M.K.Stalins son Udhayanithi. Buzz is that in this movie Vijay will be acting in dual roles.
'Pokkiri' overtaking 'Chandramukhi'!
- 05.02.2007
'Pokkiri' is doing extremely well in all the Tamilnadu theatres and the happiness of its success is visible on Vijay's face.
He shared his joy with the media who battered him with questions.
Looks like you are unable to come out of the action formula?
It's true I've continuously done action films. I don't feel I'm caught in anything. I think I am going in the right direction. In the beginning, I chose films for their stories. But the success and fame came to me only from my action films. I am willingly caught in this formula.
But isn't there too much violence in 'Pokkiri'?
But there seem to be more women in the audience than men! The box office collection for 'Pokkiri' is fast overtaking 'Chandramukhi.'
When do you plan to do a dual role?
Most probably by the end of this year! After completing 'Azhagiya Thamizh Magan,' I will be acting in a film produce by Udayanidhi, the son of MK Stalin. Talks are on and once matters are finalised, a formal announcement will be made. I am also ready to do a film with Prabhudeva.
I have no interest in direction. Directing a film is not an easy matter. It's a tension packed job. Direction is not suitable for my temperament. I have no intention of acting in any other language except Tamil."
Vijay is all set to be Kollywood's next style-mannan
If imitation is the best form of flattery, actor Vijay perhaps is the most flattered person in Kollywood today. If Simbhu made it evident by imitating Vijay's mannerisms in Saravana, Vishal has been repeating the 'Vijay formula' in all his films. It has the perfect blend of comedy, valour, romance and music in the right proportion.
"If there is any other actor who has enjoyed a reputation of creating imitations, it is Rajnikant," says film-maker R. Revathi. "Only Rajni had made his fans and the next generations of actors imitate his style. Vijay, of course, has a long way to go. But surely among the current generation of heroes, he is showing strong signs of becoming the next superstar of Kollywood."
Says Suresh Kumar, an eighth standard student: "Whenever there is a major day of releases like Deepavali or Pongal, we pray that the films of Vijay and Rajni are not released together. We get confused about our loyalties-after all, both Rajni and Vijay are our thalaivars (leaders)."
For Vijay, it has taken over 45 films and a decade to become the leading contender in the race for superstardom in Kollywood. Films are in his genes, as his father, S.A. Chandrasekhar, is an acclaimed director while his mother, Shoba, is a producer and playback singer. "I guess I developed a liking for it when I frequented shootings of films directed by my father," he says. "I had lost interest in studies and films became an obsession. Soon I was pestering my father to launch me in films."
But the family put up stiff resistance and it took years for Vijay to convince his parents that he was serious about films. When the initial hurdle was crossed, more were waiting. His first film Naalaiya Theerpu, directed by Chandrasekhar, bombed . "I was back in college, back to square one."
His parents, however, were now determined to see him succeed. "They opposed only till I took the plunge. Once they saw my determination, they supported me to the end," says Vijay. Two years after Naalaiya Theerpu came Rasikan. It was Vijay's first major hit. "Finally I was accepted. I wanted to keep doing films and keep earning decently. I never expected to get this big," says Vijay.
His major break came when director Vikraman cast him in a totally different role in Poove Unakkaaga. Vijay played a romantic whose love is not reciprocated. Yet, he helps his lady love marry the person of her choice. A string of romantic films followed. Kaadhalukku Mariyadhai, directed by Fazil, helped break Vijay's image as a carefree college boy.
It was another struggle for Vijay to become an all-round entertainer. "When I was too full of soft roles, I thought it was enough," he says. "I wanted to turn to action. The period was yet another struggle for me. A couple of films flopped, too. But eventually, I succeeded."
Gilli where Vijay played the role of a kabbadi player who tries to save heroine Trisha from the clutches of a lecherous Prakash Raj earned him laurels. The film, directed by Dharani, was a remake of the Telugu film Okkadu.
Thiruppaachi showed him as a loving brother and in Sivakasi he was an obedient son who saves his mother, and is ill-treated by his elder brother, again played by Prakash Raj. Both films were directed by Perarasu.
"Today, there is something for everyone in my films," says Vijay, with justifiable pride. "Be it women, the youth or children, they have something to enjoy-romance, comedy and dance numbers." He is considered one of the finest dancers in Kollywood.
Though Aathi in 2006 did not fare well, Vijay asserted himself with the success of Pokkiri released this Pongal. The film, directed by choreographer Prabhu Deva, is again a racy entertainer. "Working with Prabhu Deva was amazing. Pokkiri was a remake film and I thought I knew what was going to be shot, but Prabhu Deva came up with the unexpected. You just cannot afford to be lax in his films."
Vijay, however, shies away from calling himself the next superstar. "I am glad when I hear people say that," he says. "But I just cannot think of myself as one. Personally for me, there can be only one superstar and that is Rajnikant."
Vijay is all praise for his contemporaries. "I am astounded at the efforts put in by Vikram and Suriya. Ajith, too, is a good actor. Even newcomers like Vishaal and Bharath have fire and energy in them," he says.
Despite his admiration, Vijay would not think of experimenting with roles like Vikram and Suriya. "Not that I cannot," he clarifies. "If I want to do experimental roles, I can put in my best and come out with the best. But I only want to be known as an entertainer."
In the pipeline is Azhagiya Thamizhmagan directed by newcomer Bharadhan. Interestingly, Vijay has no problems in accepting offers from new directors. "I keep listening to stories whenever I have time, he says. "If I find them interesting, I don't mind acting in the films of new directors." The gamble has paid off. The new directors, launched by Vijay, have put his skills to best use.
His parents and wife, Sangeetha, are his best critics. "At times I get irritated as they keep pointing out mistakes and never appreciate my skills. Eventually, I would discover the truth in their words. My fans, too, react the same way to those scenes."
As a top hero, Vijay has paired with almost all the leading heroines in the industry. Yet, his favourite remains Simran.
The duo had rocked the dancing scene of Kollywood and left fans screaming for more. "I think she was the best when she was around. Among the current crop of heroines, my favourites are Trisha and Asin."
"He does follow Rajnikant step by step," says film critic Devi Bharathi. "Though Rajni was also an acclaimed actor, he chose to tread the safe path of style, action and comedy. His films provided wholesome entertainment and made him a superstar. In striking contrast, Kamal Haasan experimented. Today, Vijay follows the Rajni path while others like Ajith, Suriya, Vikram and Bharath emulate Kamal. Vijay is almost successful and it is only a matter of time before he moves in to fill the vacuum that Rajnikant would create. It still remains to be seen who would occupy Kamal's place."
"He may not be sophisticated like Suriya or Ajith," says Revathi. "But there is something about him that endears him to people. While other heroes are heroes, Vijay is one among us. His rusticity has a mass appeal. That is his success."
The Azhagiya Thamizh Magan story
February 04, 2007
Following the success of Pokkiri, Vijay has moved to his next film Azhagiya Thamizh Magan. In this film he is supported by the glamour dolls of Kollywood, Namitha and Shreya. With great expectations on the movie, different schools of thought are being associated with the storyline.
Initially it was said that Azhagiya Thamizh Magan is the remake of old film Murattu Kalai where Rajnikanth charmed his fans with a creditable performance. But this was refuted by Vijay himself in an interview.
Then few other sources claimed the movie to be inspired by an old M.G.R. classic as Vijay is an ardent fan of M.G.R. The mentioning of Vijay in a press release that he regularly watches M.G.R. films only added fuel to the rumors.
Meanwhile Azhagiya Thamizh Magan began with an auspicious pooja recently and the photo session was also completed.
These pictures had shaped up fabulously and they revealed a striking similarity to Abhishek Bachchan's Bluff master. Now Kollywood is abuzz with the news that Azhagiya Thamizh Magan may be inspired from bluff master.
Well, only time will be a good answer to what the actual story of the movie is.

Pokkiri - Movie Review
Cast: Vijay, Asin, Prakash Raj, Vadivelu, Nasser, Napoleon
Direction: Prabhu Deva
Music: Mani Sharma
Pokkiri - Smart Move
After loud mouth of publicity, Vijay and Asin starrer Pokkri has finally seen its release and already the Telugu original was a money spinner at the box office which starred Mahesh Babu and Illeana in the lead. Now its Vijay's turn to prove his calibre working with the direction of Prabu Deva weaving with lots of Bashes, string of duets and bursting punch lines.
There is nothing quite quintessential as breathtaking as a spoof. Taking pot shots at the cliches of Andhra snuff genres from roller coster Mahesh Babu's block buster Pokkri in Telugu is titled same in Tamil here with mix and match of couple of duets, handful of bashes, certain amount of laughters and romance put together is formula for Pokri's secret of success.
The begining of the movie is bountyful feast to watch Vijay and Prabu Deva doing a hip hop number which leaves a lasting impression for vijay's ardent admirers.
The story beams with Thamizh(Vijay) most wanted accused, who longs for hefty price doing ransom act at the same time an angel Sruthi(Asin) for trust worthy. Things change when he falls for Sruthi's overwhelming personna.
Sruthy is captivated by notorious cop who goes evil ways to play a truant in her family. Thamizh's pleasant entry is esctacy in sruthy's life. Thamizh works for underworld don and with in short span of time with his racy attitude he soon comes up in life. His big boss Ali played by Prakash Raj arrive from overseas is in the watch by Tamil Nadu Police.
Mohideen Khan(Napoleon), CBI investigator runs the cases of Ali and his men. The rest forms the hard hitting climax with fast paced narration, gripping direction and languishing clean bowled racy rides which will hold the audiences attention to thier seat edges.
Stunt sequences by Vijayan and Editing by Srikar Prasad is well handled. Prabu Deva takes the cake for his ambitious step into direction and choreography has tried to pull up his execution through out the film by featuring a perfect formula for vijay in a catalyst role combined with fiery lines and well etched role is sure to be icing on the cake for Vijay. Prakash Raj steals the thunder being villainous with over whelming comic antics.
Vijay is crowd puller and still proves he is a live wire. Asin looks ravishing and does a fair job. Vadivelu entertains the viewers in his comic antics. Mani Sharma's music is a major plus for film's applause. On the whole the unredeemingly look alike Telugu remake here is Hay day reborn.
Positive
Vijay (Hot punch lines and dance)
Asin (Looks cute)
Vadivelu (Rib tickling comedy)
Music (Foot tapping)
Direction (Directed in a such a way that suits vijay)
Negative
A ditto from Telugu Pokkiri. (could have changed the screenplay to make it more better)
Story: Same as Telugu Pokkiri
Screenplay: Same as Telugu Pokkiri
Direction: Excellent
Music: Excellent
Photography: Good
Verdict : Dynamite

"I will go with Vijay if he calls me again"
February 03, 2007
That precisely was what Prabhudeva had to say when questioned if he would be willing to associate with Vijay yet again. The box office reports have proved it loud and clear that Prabhudeva is better as a director than as an actor with Pokkiri hitting the bull’s eye in Tamil Nadu as well.
With the success of Pokkiri, Prabhudeva has hogged the limelight in Tamil cinema yet again. Answering questions to newspersons for an interview recently, Prabhudeva further stated that he has no immediate plans for another Tamil movie.

Rajini praises Vijay's film!
- 02.02.2007
Rajini loves to praise others. Almost half the industry has been praised by him, including Vijay, Vikram, Dharani, Murugadoss, Surya, Dhanush, Trisha, Hari and so on.
About 2 days back, he saw 'Pokkiri' starring his ardent fan Vijay. Rajini was quite impressed with the way Vijay delivered punch dialogues in his style and lashed out at the villains.
After seeing the film, Rajini contacted director Prabhudeva and told him how much he liked the film. 'From start to finish, the pace was so fast,' he said in appreciation.
After acting in the short film directed by Santosh Sivan in Mysore, Prabudeva will direct 'Sankardada Zindabad' starring Chiranjeevi. This is an important film for Prabhudeva so advance appreciation from Rajini is very encouraging for this young director.
Since Vijay is out of country, he missed Rajini's praises!
Pokkiri- Rajni Happy, Vijay gloomy
February 02, 2007
A heartfelt appreciation about others is not a common trait that is found in all human beings. Very few people are bestowed with this genial quality. Our super star Rajnikanth is one such person who despite his superior stature in the industry does not fail to laud any noteworthy effort from fellow artists.
In the same vein, after watching Vijay’s Pokkiri, he is said to have called the director Prabhu Deva and offered his accolades. Rajnikanth was said to have been very much impressed with the film’s fast paced narration. He had also offered his good wishes to the entire team.
On the other hand, Vijay is said to be overcast in his mood regarding Telugu dubbing of Pokkiri. As Pokkiri is a remake film from Telugu, he is not able to dub it and release there. But in Kerala, this film has performed very well lifting everybody’s spirits. Now Vijay has decided to release his next venture Azagiya Thamizh Magan both in Tamil and Telugu simultaneously.
