Asin's No to Vijay

October 29, 2008

Vijay is currently busy with Prabhu Deva's Villu which will be wrapped up soon. After this his next project would be Vettaikaran for A V M films to be directed by Babu Sivan, a former associate of Dharani.

Heroine hunt is on for this film and many leading names have been considered from Ileana to Asin. It was earlier speculated that Asin said yes to the offer. Close sources revealed that 45 days of her call sheet was required for which a sum of 2 crore was offered.

However the Malabar lass who is having a good time in Bollywood with films like Ghajini and London dreams is reported to have declined this offer. Looks like the heroine hunt will still be on.

Rajini & Vijay watch Aegan!

By Moviebuzz | Sunday, 26 October , 2008, 21:48

Ayngaran International, Kollywood's leading producers and distributors organized a preview of their Ajit's Aegan, at Four Frames preview theatre on Friday evening, for two of the biggest stars in the industry.

The superstar Rajinikanth and Ilayathalapathy Vijay watched this exclusive screening with their families. It is after a long time Rajini and Vijay are watching a preview together.

Remember Ayngaran International are the producers of Rajinikanth's Enthiren and Vijay's Villu?

Meanwhile Gautham Vasudeva Menon, Ajit's next director saw Aegan at the first public screening of the film at Sathyam Cinema's on Saturday morning. Keeping him company was Silambarasan a big Ajit fan.

Nayanthara preferred to see the film alone, Saturday night show in the box at Albert in Egmore. Nayan always prefers to watch the film with the audiences and that too in a theatre catering to the masses.

Tamannah about vijay

From Tamanna's interview to Behindwoods:

What do you think of the actors of current times?

I think the industry is very fortunate to have so many gifted actors. Right now I am working with Surya and Dhanush who are amazingly versatile. I like Vijay who is a very good dancer and I am a huge fan of his dance. I am going to be working with Bharath and Siddharth in Telugu.

Villu takes a break!

October 23, 2008

While Ajith's Aegan is all geared up for a Diwali release nail-bitingly, Vijay's Villu seems to be taking a refresher break for the festival from its backbreaking schedules. The team, stationed in the pristine beaches of Thailand for the first leg of the shooting, is back to Chennai after winding up the schedule for a Diwali break.

It is learnt that 70% of the shooting is over and the crew will fly back to Thailand in a few days for the rest of the pending shoots. Said to be the final leg, this trip will last for 15 days with which
the movie will be wrapped up.

Villu stars Vijay and Nayan in the lead with Prabhu Deva calling the shots for the second time with Vijay.

First look: Vijay's 'Villu'

The story of Vijay-Nayantara starrer 'Villu' is said to be loosely based on a Hindi film that released around 15 years back. A gang of anti-social elements hatches a conspiracy and kills an army officer after levelling charges of 'traitor' on him. Because of these charges, the army officer's funeral turns out to be a normal affair instead of a government sponsored one, given to those who lay down their precious lives in the service of the nation.

The army officer's widow, our hero's son, narrates these incidents to the hero in his younger days and he subsequently develops into a world-beater. She entrusts him with the job of proving his father's innocence and mitigate the 'black mark' heaped on him by the gang. The 'man with a mission', our hero enrolls himself into the territorial army, murders one-by-one all those responsible for the death of his father.

He then collects many an award from the army, some of which meant for his father, and returns to his native place to proclaim with proof his father's innocence. The 'military' backdrop has been changed and sutured according to the needs of the Tamilian 'culture'.

Vijay's aspiration

Vijay has established himself as a mass commercial hero, who entertains the big crowds. Known for his racy entertainers which combine humor, action and romance at the right mix, he has huge fan-following which throng theatres whenever his movie gets released.

The actor is now playing a prominent role in 'Villu', directed by choreographer-director Prabhu Deva. It is a touted to be a commercial entertainer, which would be racy and entertaining all through. The duo has earlier teamed up and made the commercial coup 'Pokkiri'.

Vijay, who is all set to complete half-century films in Kollywood, is keen to act in a movie to be directed by Mani Rathinam. Speaking at a function recently, he openly expressed his desire to be a part of Mani Rathinam's movie.

It may be recalled that Vijay had acted in 'Nerukku Ner', a movie produced by Mani Rathinam's Madras Talkies and directed by Vasanth a decade ago.

Clash of coincidences

The latest buzz in the industry is that Ajit and Vijay are planning to make their 50th Golden jubilee films for their own production houses.

Well, the fans of Ilayathalapathy Vijay and Ultimate Star Ajit may be at loggerheads, but actually there is a lot in common between them.

Ajit's 48th film is going to be Aegan, releasing for Diwali while Vijay's 48th film Villu is due for Pongal. They other common factor is that they will be pairing with Nayanthara in their respective movies. If Ajit is being directed by Raju Sundaram, his younger brother Prabhu Deva is directing Vijay. And to top it all both the films have the same producer— Karunamoorthy of Ayngaran International.

Ajit debuted in Tamil with Amaravathi while Vijay's first movie was Naalaya Theerpu. Meanwhile, let us hope that the situation does not get more bizarre and the films release on the same day!

Nayan and Vijay in Phuket!

By Moviebuzz | Saturday, 18 October , 2008, 16:03

Last week Nayanthara was with Ajit in Switzerland, shooting a song for Aegan.

Both of them were dancing to the tune of Yuvan Shankar Raja's music and taking part in a duet Mallika Mallika… choreographed by director Raju Sundaram.

Now Nayan is in Phuket dancing on the beaches with Ilayathalapathy Vijay for Villu directed and choreographed by Prabhu Deva, Raju's brother!

Vijay had earlier completed some deadly action scenes, in Bangkok. Now after completing the song, they will be shooting some more portion of the talkie part of the film.

Nearly 60 percent of the talkie part of the film is being shot abroad, as per story demands.

Times of India | 21 Oct 2008, 0029 hrs IST, TNN

Phuket islands in Thailand is becoming a hot location for Tamil films.

Phuket, which is among the best tourist destinations in the world, is becoming popular after Hrithik Roshan and Ameesha Patel's superhit title song in Kaho Na Pyaar Hai was picturised in this picture post card island. In the last year alone, a dozen Tamil songs have been picturised at this seaside resort.

Last week, Nayanthara flew from Switzerland—after completing the last song of Aegan with Ajit — straight into Phuket island where Vijay and director Prabhu Deva were shooting a song for Villu.

Meanwhile, Sundar C and his producer wife Kushboo flew into Phuket to shoot a song for their Aindham Padai. It looks as if it has become cheaper to shoot a song in Phuket rather than Ootty!

Asin’s swerved payroll !

IndiaGlitz
[Tuesday, October 21, 2008]

News being said is Asin has been roped in to play the lead opposite Vijay for a high sum of 2 crores. AVM Balasubramaniam produces this movie, `Vettaikaran' starring Vijay.

View Asin Gallery

Erstwhile, Asin shared screen space with Vijay in the blockbuster hits, `Sivakasi' and `Pokiri'. The actor expressed his desire to cast Asin once again; that he considers as his lucky mascot. The makers of Vettaikaran managed to make it happen, even though it's a pricey endeavor. Being busy in Bollywood has made a whopping increase in the actress's payroll.

A notable news is Nayantara has earlier been paid a sum of 1 crore, for the Karthik starrer, directed by Lingusamy.

Speaking to the media, Asin said," I am all excited about sharing screen space once again with Vijay. The producers phoned me to discuss as I am now in London for the shooting of the Hindi movie `London Dreams'. I am planning to mull over the script once I reach Mumbai. As I am already committed in a Hindi project that starts February, I will be acting in this movie if my schedule permits."

It's a sheen time for Asin as she is being considered as the lucky mascot by the popular star Vijay as well as by ace actor Kamal Haasan. She has been signed up to enact in Kamal's historical extravaganza `Marma Yogi', after their successful combination in `Dasavatharam'.

Asin to do Vettaikaran opposite Vijay?

Is Asin going to act opposite Vijay for his forthcoming film for AVM Balasubramaniam titled Vettaikaran?

The buzz in Kollywood circles is that Asin has been offered a whopping Rs 2 crore, the highest ever offered to a Tamil film heroine of south Indian origin (Aiswarya Rai considered a Bollywood actress is being paid Rs 6 crore to do Rajinikanth's Enthiren).

Ilayathalapathy Vijay is very particular that his lucky heroine be considered for his 49th film. Remember Vijay-Asin as a pair was simply rocking in Sivakasi and Pokkiri, both super hits?

When contacted in London where she is shooting with Salman Khan- Ajay Devgan , Vipul Shah directed London Dreams, Asin says that she has been approached by the producers of the film, and would love to do the hat trick film with Vijay.

Says Asin: "I had a great time working with Vijay in the two films that I had done with him and his wife Sangeetha is one of my closest friends in the industry. I have told the producers that I want a complete narration of the script, when I'm back in Mumbai in November. It also depends on whether I can adjust my dates as my next film in Hindi, is likely to start in February".

Thala vs Ilaiya Thalapathy!

Who is bigger - Ajith or Vijay? On the verge of completing a 100 films among them, fifty apiece, it’s a 50-50 situation in more than one sense.
Who is bigger- Ajith or Vijay?
In the southern kingdom of Rajni-land, a war has been raging over the last decade to anoint the Superstar’s heir apparent. On one side is the ‘Young General’ (Iliaya Thalapthi) Vijay, who has upstaged Rajni himself in a recent popularity poll. On the other is ‘Ultimate Star’ Ajith (also known as ‘Thala’) whose crowd pulling ability can even give even the Thalaivar the creeps.
On the verge of completing a 100 films among them, fifty apiece, it’s a 50-50 situation in more than one sense. The balance of power, evenly poised for now, might shift either way with Ajith’s ‘Aegan’ (‘Main Hoon Naa’ remake) and Vijay’s ‘Villu’ due for release soon. But given the sub continental conditions, there is an equal possibility of the long drawn test match ending in a tame draw.
The star standoffs of Tamil cinema are as old as the Western Ghats. After MGR and Sivaji, Rajni and Kamal, the latest instalment has all the makings of a classical rivalry. “Who has more mass?” (Not to be taken in the Newtonian sense, the reference here is to mass appeal!) : Passers-by are known to ask each other on the streets. It is a debate as favoured by sociology professors of Anna University as by the rickshaw drivers from downtown Chennai.
Vijay with his son-of-the-soil looks, screen demeanor and public image is a direct descendant of the MGR-Rajni lineage. In his movies he dances his lungs out, beats up more baddies than can be accommodated at the Apollo, gives moral discourses to women in particular and often turns to face the camera to have a heart-to-heart chat with his fans.
Ajith, on the other hand, is more equated with Kamal and not for no reason. Ajith. like Kamal, has a thing for prosthetics in addition to a multi-role fetish. Though he hasn’t ventured to attempt anything as outlandish as a ‘Dasavatharam’, it is a real and menacing possibility. But yet the comparison is farfetched, most Kamal fans would say, Ajith being more a student of the Rajni school of acting (which is a Kamal fan’s way of saying he cannot act for peanuts).
It is a long standing treatise in cinema that the stronger the villain the stronger the hero. As an upshot, in the absence of a suitable rival, the hero will cease to be a hero. Both Vijay and Ajith have long ago sworn by this dictum, taking digs at each other through song lyrics and dialogues. But rumour has it that away from the arc lights and flash bulbs they are the best of buddies.
But the fans like to take none of it. Two hoots to their camaraderie-status, the fans say.
The “mandrams” (fan clubs) had drawn the swords long ago and come what may they will protect the status quo. After all a bit of spark on the streets and over TASMAC (Tamil Nadu State Marketing Corporation Limited, to be read as ‘wine shop’) sessions never really hurt anyone.
It is in your DNA, they say. You are either a Vijay fan or then you are the Ajith type. You don’t get to like them both. Recreational Hazard!

Vijay, 51 and Rathnam

Ilaya Thalapathy Vijay is busy shooting for Villu that is directed by Prabhu Deva. After he completes this flick of Prabhu Deva, he will move over to A V M films for a project. This will be his 49th film. Further on, Vijay has plans to do his 50th film for his father S A Chandrashekar for V V creations.

It has been said in Kollywood circles that eminent producer A M Rathnam is keen to rope in Vijay for his next venture which will be Vijay's 51st film. Vijay - Rathnam combination has had blockbuster hits like Kushi and Gilli in the past and trade circles believe that Vijay also will be eager to work with Rathnam once again.

Reliable sources say that Rathnam is listening to many scripts and is in the process of choosing the best that would suit Vijay.

Ameer makes a hint

The people of Cine Journalists Association (CJA) presented the Cine Critics Award to the outstandingly talented people of the film industry on 12th October, at Four Frames Theatre, Chennai. The function was presided over by A Thamizhanban, head of the association and Veteran director K Balachandar graced the event by distributing the awards. 'Paruthi Veeran' made a hat-trick by bagging three of the awards for the best movie, best director Ameer
and best actress Priyamani.

Director Ameer was seen elated and he expressed his delight saying that the awards have been given to the deserving talents. He said that he is not against larger than life cinema and also said that commercial cinema and art cinema should go in parallel.

Ameer expressed that he himself is a fan of Rajinikanth but he said when it comes to recognizing an artist for talents, popularity or charisma alone should not be taken into account.

He spoke at the function as - Presenting the `Best actor award' for mass heroes like Rajinikanth or Vijay based on the commercial success of their films, through polls or popularity is something
that should not be entertained. `Rajini, Vijay are capable of acting well. But they don't feature in films which exhibit their talent or offer much scope for performance. They can be awarded as `Best Popular actor', `Best Mass Hero' and their films as `Best blockbuster' for their commercial success.

Mass song in Pollachi for Vijay`s Villu

The Vijay- Nayanthara action entertainer Villu, directed by Prabhu Deva is making brisk progress. Last week, during the nights, action scenes were canned for the film in and arond the busy streets of Chennai.

The film has some awesome action scenes which are very crucial to the story. After completing the Chennai schedule, the unit has now left for Pollachi to shoot a song for the film.According to sources in the industry, Prabhu Deva wants to shoot the ultimate Kuthu song for the film. Remember some of the most popular Kuthu numbers in Tamil cinema have featured our Ilayathalapathy.

One of the major highlights of Vijay- Prabhu Deva’s earlier Pokkiri was the songs and its picturisation. Who can forget the chartbusting kuthu number Mambazham ma…? Similarly in Villu, music director Devi Sri Prasad is said to have composed a mass kuthu number which will be picturised on Vijay and Nayanthara in Pollachi this week. The song, it is believed, is sure to make the fans of the star happy.

Arrest during Villu shoots!

Mano Bala, the comedian, had few interesting details to share about his forthcoming film Villu. Talking about his experience while shooting in Pattaya, Thailand, the actor said that the team was filming a fight sequence, choreographed by stunt master FEFSI Vijayan, in which he was required to chase a few terrorists.

The director had placed the cameras alongside the road and Mano Bala was pillion riding when a few policemen stopped them for over speeding. The police arrested Mano Bala even after repeatedly insisting that it was for shooting purposes only.

Later, the team contacted the office of Ayngaran International in Thailand, which presented a letter to the police substantiating that it was only for shooting purposes.

Police Officer for Vijay and Vikram

Manoj K Jayan who starred as a police officer in Vikram's Dhool is a versatile actor essaying varied kind of roles. In the Malayalam film industry, he is known for his portrayal of different characters with lot of sensitivity and has earned the acclaim of both mass and class.

In Dharani's Dhool, Manoj's character was highly pivotal and was much talked about. His strict countenance should be luring the directors to offer him police officer's roles and he will once again be seen in Vijay's Villu as a police official.

Sources from the unit feel that Manoj's role has been chiseled very well by director Prabhu Deva and once the film releases, his career is sure to boom further

Rajnikanth loses to Vijay!

Rajnikanth, presently the highest paid actor in India, came a poor fourth in a state-wide opinion poll conducted by students of a private educational institution.
Rajnikanth loses to Vijay!
The poll was conducted by Loyola College students and late thespians M.G. Ramachandran and Sivaji Ganeshan came first and second.
Vijay, relatively less known than Rajnikanth, has ranked third in the poll by getting 16.4 percent votes, while Rajnikanth got 16.2.
Last year, Rajnikanth had topped the list followed by Vijaykanth.
The pollsters attributed the matinee idol's fall from the top position to his latest flop 'Kuselan'. The star is presently abroad shooting for Shankar's 'Robot'.
Actor-turned- politician Vijaykanth came fifth by getting 10.7 percent of the votes.
Amongst actresses, National Award winning B. Saroja Devi topped the favourite list, while J. Jayalalitha, AIADMK leaer, former chief minister and current leader of opposition, was ranked number two.
The third and fourth positions amongst former femme fatales were taken by the faded out K.R. Vijaya and recent retiree Jyothika Surya.
Controversial actress and television host Khushboo Sundar came fifth.
None of the current female heartthrobs including Trisha, Shreya Saran and Nayanthara came anywhere close to their seniors

“Aamir Khan is a big fan of Vijay’s dance”-Murugadoss

From Murugadoss's interview to Behindwoods:

Did you happen to meet any of your Tamil crewmembers while on the Gajini shoot?

I met Vijay accidently in a lift at Ramoji Rao Studios. After initial pleasantries he asked me if he could visit the Gajini sets. I was shocked and invited him personally to the sets and introduced him to Aamir. To my surprise, Aamir immediately recognized him and said that he is a fan of Vijay and his dance. He also recollected how he and his wife would be glued to his songs on TV while in Chennai. Aamir also met Manobala during that occasion and remembered him from Gajini. Those ten days are unforgettable in my life. I also met Thotta Dharani in one of the Telugu film sets. It was like visiting a close relative’s house. The hospitality was simply remarkable.

You once said only Vijayakanth could carry off the Ramana character.

Although I don’t keep actors in mind while framing stories, I do think Ramana’s character is etched out for Vijayakanth. I did not in the wildest of my dreams think of working with Aamir while creating Gajini. Same way Dheena was supposed to have Vijay and turned out to be an Ajith film. Gajini was made for Ajith and Surya ended up starring in it. This ideology works for my Telugu movies too. It’s funny; sometimes I have Kunjaramma in mind while creating a story. That’s how things work with me.

Ajith nears his half-century

IndiaGlitz
[Friday, October 03, 2008]

Close on the heels of actor Vijay nearing his 50th film, actor Ajith too has joined him in the race. 'Aegan' starring Ajith, is his 48th film (directed by choreographer Raju Sundaram) which is ready for release on Deepaavali. His next would be directed by Gautham Menon for Sivaji Productions. All eyes are now focussed on who would direct Ajith for his 50th film.

Interestingly Vijay's 48th film is 'Villu' and is directed by Prabhudeva. His next would be 'Vettaikaran' followed by his 50th film to be produced by his father S A Chandrasekharan. The director is still to be finalised.

The fact that two popular heroes of Tamil cinema nearing their 50th film is a moment to cherish for their fans.

Vijay’s memorable Gandhi Jayanthi

The 140th Gandhi Jayanthi celebration at the Raj Bhavan was a memorable event with His Excellency Governor Surjit Singh Barnala inaugurating the paintings of the Chennai-based painter A.P. Sreedhar. There were 18 paintings in all and each one of it had an apt title.

The paintings exhibited released Gandhiji's conviction, defiance, affection, determination and perseverance among others. Speaking at the event, the Governor recalled his interactions with
Mahatma Gandhi.

All the paintings had a commentary to it which makes the exhibition even more interesting. Noted actor Vijay, along his father and director S.A.Chandrasekar visited that exhibition and was in awe with Sreedhar's work.
