Vijay's decision proves wise
By Behindwoods News Bureau.
June 21, 2008
After haggling over for a title for their film, Vijay and director Prabhu Deva finally decided to name their film Vil. But when sources pointed out that the title has already been taken up S.J. Suryah, the clever duo modified it to Villu, in spite S.J. Suryah's assurance that Vil has been shelved due to unforeseen circumstances.
Well, the decision to be in the safer side seems to have paid off now, as S.J. Suryah has decided to recommence the film. In fact, Vil's teaser trailer, which was done by director Prabhakaran, was so good that S.J. Suryah now thinks it would be wise to resume the film. Talks are on with the producers in this regard.

Vijay: The quintessential entertainer- Happy Birthday
Behindwoods
June 21, 2008
Some people are just blessed with that presence! A presence that can make everything else seem small and insignificant. They do not need big weighty dialogues, lavish songs or heavy duty stunts, they capture your attention by just being there, everything else just adds to the effect. Some call this charisma, others refer to it as magnetism or aura - all these mean the same when Vijay is on screen. The man of the masses of Tamil cinema, he lives our dreams and fantasies on screen like no other actor of his generation has done over the past decade. Starting off as the timid young lad in the early 90s, to being the romantic hero, the action star and steadily building his place in our minds and hearts to become the Ilaiya Thalapathi. Behindwoods joins thousands of Vijay fans all over Tamil Nadu in wishing him a very happy birthday.

Unlike popular perception, being a mass hero is not something very easy. As a peoples' star there is a certain pattern or formula that is expected every time he appears on screen and he has to live up to it and yet give something different each time he does a movie. In short, he has a tough job of finding unpredictability in predictability. When fans watch a Vijay movie there is a feeling of comfortable familiarity that they enjoy, the knowledge that they will be entertained, that their hero will emerge on top in the end and that no matter what, they can go back home, happy having had a great time inside the theaters. Vijay has to provide all this, keep his fans happy and yet try to find something new. There has been the criticism that most of his movies follow the same formula (which some call clichéd), which is harsh because of its narrow perspective. Many say that he is far too predictable to be enjoyed but then those who feel that Vijay is getting repetitive must check out his figures at the box office. There are few (one or maybe two) contemporaries that can guarantee the kind of openings that he can generate, the euphoria that he can create, the celebrations that he can trigger in the galleries every time he dances or fights- if Vijay was repetitive as the critics had thought, then all this would never have been possible.
Yes, there have been the failures and pitfalls but Vijay has always got up, dusted himself and moved forward. As the saying goes, failure is not when you fall, it is when you refuse to get up. But then, when you have to match the expectations of the countless fans waiting eagerly for your movie things are bound to go wrong once in a while. Look at it in this way and you will find that Vijay's consistency in satisfying his fans is something you have to tip your hat to. Vijay the actor's formula is simple, to get into the character and Vijay the star's formula is simple, keep your fans happy and when these two are put together, the result is a no holds barred entertainer.

The Vijay brand of entertainment may not be everyone's cup of tea (or so some may like to pretend) but how many times have we caught ourselves enjoying those swift and elegant dance moves, those powerful dialogues and the stylish bashing of the baddies. There can be a debate over whether Vijay is a cinematic genius or a versatile actor, but there are no two opinions on his stardom, unchallenged and undisputed. Mass hero, Ilaiya Thalapathi Vijay- many happy returns of the day.
This time, too, Ilaiya Thalapathi's fans have come out with big plans for their hero's birthday and it really does look big this time. For the first time since its inception the Vijay lead Narppani Iyakkam will have an official flag, don't read too deeply into it, it is just an identity. The crowds expected to turn out at the venue, the Centenary Hall of Madras University, are so big that only five members from each registered Vijay Fan's Association will be permitted into the venue (that speaks loads about the man's pull). Meanwhile, Vijay the perfect professional was shooting in Pazhani for Villu. The schedule wrapped up just a day prior to the celebrations and he is slated to join them on the big day. That shows why he is such a big star, no amount of adulation has changed his approach to cinema, and he simply continues working.

Vijay's big B'day plans
By Moviebuzz | Saturday, 21 June , 2008, 10:40
Ilayathalapathy Vijay plans to celebrate his 35th birthday in style on Sunday, June 22.

After visiting his favourite orphanages and also donating materials to the poor and needy, he will be officially launching his fan flag.
Vijay becomes the fourth Tamil actor in recent times after Rajinikanth, Vijaykanth and Sarath Kumar to have his own flag for his fan club- Akhila India Vijay Rasigar Narpani Mandiram (AIVRNM).
If Rajini's flag had light blue, white and red with the superstar's image imprinted in a star in it, Vijay's is also said to be similar with his face embossed on it. It also clearly proves that the star nurses political ambitions.
The big bash is taking place at the University of Madras, Centenary Hall at 4.30 PM and entry is by invitation only. Vijay after unveiling his party flag, will announce other welfare activities that his fan club will undertake.

Is Vijay aiming right with 'Villu'?
IndiaGlitz
[Saturday, June 21, 2008]
Touted as the next superstar of Tamil cinema, Vijay is reportedly keen on getting everything right with ‘Villu’. An average showing with ‘Azhagiya Tamil Magan’ and ‘Kuruvi’ has not helped Vijay's journey to the numero uno position for the future. Despite being on the top amongst young heroes, the actor has to come up with a string of successes to consolidate his position.
Vijay's magnetic appeal in the B and C centers has seen to it that even his average movies somehow scrape through at the box office. But this is a trend that might not continue for long especially with the influx of talented young filmmakers experimenting new styles of storytelling in Tamil cinema. These innovative approaches have been recognized and appreciated by audiences. The surge of quality filmmaking is bound to tighten the noose around run-of-the-mill stories.
After the stupendous success of 'Pokkiri', the remake of a Telugu film by the same name, Vijay has teamed up with Prabhu Deva once again, to reproduce the success. Sources say ‘Villu’ is expected to have the usual dose of fights, dance, sentiment-filled sequences and loads of dialogues that 'glorify' Vijay. These are facets that are loved by the 'typical' Vijay fan. No matter how well these elements reach out, the story and narration hold the key to the long run. This is where Prabhu Deva and Vijay have to be extra careful.
There is a talk doing the rounds as to what the story of ‘Villu’ is going to be like. It goes like this….
A group of baddies kill an honest, hardworking man. The man's wife and son are somehow spared. The son (Vijay) grows up under the impression that his father had perished in an accident. But then, as the story goes, Vijay learns of the malicious plot that got his father murdered. An angry Vijay hatches a plan to bring the murderers to justice and in the process falls in love with the daughter of a baddie, played by Nayantara. Inevitably it is justice and love ahead of Dad and so she toes the lines of Vijay's plans dutifully only to succeed.
Even a die hard Vijay fan would be hoping against hope that this is just a rumor and the actual story is in fact a new gripping tale. If this rumor turns out to be true, one gets the feeling Vijay will have to get back to square one, rethink his strategies and start all over again in order to get things right.
Only time will tell us the truth. So, let's hold our horses and wait for the story to unfold. Keep an eye on IndiaGlitz for updates.

Vijay goes the Vijayakanth way
IndiaGlitz
[Friday, June 20, 2008]
Vijayakanth launched a flag for his fans association even before he entered politics. Vijay is reportedly going Vijayakanth's way now.
As part of his birthday celebrations in Chennai on 22 June, Vijay will launch a flag for his fans association. Vijay, who is currently shooting in Karaikudi, will make a trip to Chennai to take part in his birthday celebrations.
A grand function is being organized in Chennai and the numero uno among young heroes Vijay will unveil the flag.
Does this mean the actor would also enter politics in the future? 'It's too early to say', said an avid Vijay fan.
'He is a mass hero and is admired everywhere. Obviously a flag for his fans association will bind his fans together', he said.

Nayanthara under the waterfall
By Moviebuzz | Friday, 20 June , 2008, 15:57
The unit of Villu is in Chalakudy in Kerala.

The buzz is that director Prabhudeva is shooting Nayanthara's introduction scene under the famous Athirapally waterfall.
This is a favourite location of film makers and is located at the entrance to Sholayar ranges.
Villu is progressing at jet speed as the unit has completed the shoot in three locations- Palani, Pollachi and Karaikudi in the last 20 days.
Prabhudeva is a fantastic visualizer and is taking a lot of care to see that every frame is perfect.
Ravi Varman is in charge of the camera, with music by Devi Sri Prasad. After the completion of the present schedule nearly 40 percent of the film will be over.
In July the unit will be going for a long schedule abroad to complete the rest of the film.

Vijay’s Villu storyline
By Behindwoods News Bureau.
June 19, 2008
Vijay’s Villu has geared up to be shot and the crew is very enthusiastic just like their hero and the director. After the box office hit of Pokkiri, India’s Michael Jackson and Ilaya Thalapathy has teamed up once again and their magic is sure to work on the audience. One more addition to this team is Kollywood’s hot property Nayanthara who is being paired up with Vijay for the first time. The film is touted to be a commercial one with all the necessary ingredients of an entertainer. Though no official story line was divulged, some of the guesses go as follows.
An honest officer gets killed by a team of desperadoes and his wife and son alone escape this dastardly act. The unsuspecting son grows up thinking that his dad had a natural death. However when he comes to know the truth from one of his dad’s friends, he is up in arms with the system and starts his mission of avenging his dad’s death. On this trail, he meets his love Nayan who happens to be the daughter of one of the baddies. Will he succeed in his mission and love forms the plot of the film.
Stories like these are bound to make its round till official announcement comes. Behindwoods will keep you posted on it.

Abhishek dances to Vijay's song
Prasanna Singh
[June 19, 2008, 12:15:49 PM]
Abhishek Bachchan who is the brand ambassador of Motorola will "dance away everyone's heart" in a new Motorola ad pretty soon. The new ad film features Abhishek Bachchan dancing to the famous Kollywood song `Appadi podu podu' from Vijay's blockbuster Ghilli. He will sure win everyone's attention with his style and hilarious movements in this song.

While launching the new mobile in Mumbai, Abhishek Bachchan performed this dance on stage. But that was just a curtain raiser. For the real event, we will have to wait until the ad hits the small screens.
After the event, when Abhishek Bachchan was answering the reporters' queries, he got a phone call on his mobile phone. Any guess as to what was his ringtone?! Yes! You are right! His phone began singing `Appadi podu podu'. It looks like now it is the turn of North to go crazy after `Appadi podu podu'!
Abhishek's face lit up when he saw the phone's display and while answering the call. He excused himself and answered the call and got back to the reporters and said "Well, you know who is waiting for me. So if you could please hurry up, I will get back to my family". And everyone obliged. Abhishek signed off with a big smile on his face.

Prabhudeva is filming Vijay's 'Villu' at rocket speed.
Prabhudeva started shooting for the film 'Villu' that brings Vijay and Nayantara for the first time even Without an inauguration function but with only a small pooja. Shooting was done for the scenes involving Vijay and Nayantara in Pollachi region.
Later Prabhudeva shot some scenes in Pazhani. As filming is taking at a rapid pace the film unit including Prabhudeva and Vijay watched 'Dasavataram' in Pazhani itself.
After that they shot the fight sequences between Vijay and the villain. For that they have gone to Karaikudi. Cinematographer Ravivarman is shooting the scenes.
News is out that 'Villu' is the re-make of the Hindi film 'Soldier'. Both Vijay and Prabhudeva have nothing to say about that. They have put heavy restrictions to prevent the stills of 'Villu' to be taken out.
Are they very cautious in not creating over expectations?

Some scenes for 'Villu' are planned to be shot in Pazhani. For that both Nayantara and Vijay would be staying in Pazhani for about 10 days. The first schedule was shot in Pollachi region. Going by Prabhudeva's speed, the unit people say that the film may be released before Deepavali.

Vijay, Nayan in Palani
Times of India
15 Jun 2008, 0008 hrs IST
Ilayathalapathy Vijay's Villu is progressing at a brisk pace in Palani, Pollachi and surrounding areas.
The film, directed by Prabhu Deva, is a musical action thriller that moves from a village in Tamil Nadu to across continents. Nayanthara is being featured opposite Vijay for the first time as his heroine.
Earlier, Nayan had done an item number, a popular song sung by Vijay's mom Shobha Chandrasekhar Kodambakkam area... in the super hit Vijay starrer Sivakasi. Prabhu Deva and Vijay are coming together after the success of Pokkiri.
The director is a fast worker, and the movie has camera by Ravi Varman. Ravi is happy that there is a lot of vibrancy in the way Prabhu visualises his shots. Vijay and Nayanthara make a lovely pair and after the 10-day shoot in Palani, the unit will be flying off to an exotic location abroad.
Vijay, who is impressed by the speed and professionalism of the director, is all praise for Prabhu Deva. On the other hand, Prabhu says Vijay is simply electrifying and is so involved with the proceedings. Seems like the duo is all set to rock again!
