Among the Tamil films released in 2007, Vijay's 'Pokkiri' seems to be the most successful.
After the flop of 'Aathi,' Vijay was ultra careful in choosing this film and it was also the first Tamil film that Prabhudeva directed. Remake of a Telugu film, the songs are a super hit in Tamilnadu as well as Kerala. The collections of 'Pokkiri' eclipsed that of most original Malayalam films.
Produced at a cost of 15 crores, the film made a profit of nearly 10 crores. This seems to a record for films released in 2007. Next in line comes Hari's 'Thamirabharani' starring Vishal. Produced at a cost of 7 crores, the film made a profit of nearly 7 crores. When comparing the investment and profit ratio, Hari's film would actually come first.
Following 'Thamirabharani' are Ameer's 'Paruthiveeran' and Radha Mohan's 'Mozhi.' When 'Sivaji' gets released next month, it would definitely beat 'Pokkiri' for first place. After the release of 'Dasavataram, ' the contest will be between Kamal and Rajini...
We can look forward to an interesting box office clash!
