ATM shoot over!

By Moviebuzz | Saturday, 29 September , 2007, 09:31

Ilayathalapathy Vijay, heaved a sigh of relief and joy on Thursday evening, as his Azhagiya Tamizh Magan shoot was completed at Film city in Chennai.

It was the longest ever shooting schedule for a Vijay film, as director Bharathan took nearly 200 days to complete the talkie and songs.

The last song to be shot for ATM, a remix of Sivaji Ganesan’s Sorgam hit number Ponmagan Vanthal….. was picturised on Vijay and Shriya on a set put up by art director Maniraj.

The post production work of the film will start from October 1, with Vijay already completing a good part of dubbing for the film. A.R Rahman will start the re-recording of the film from the second week of October.

Meanwhile producer Swargachitra Appachan is a happy man, as the project conceived nearly three years back is finally going to hit the screens this Diwali.

First Appachan tried to make Puli with Vijay under S.J Surya’s direction, then it became a remake of Pawan Kalyan’s Bangaram, which too was scrapped. Finally it became a reality with ATM under Bharathan!

Vadivelu refuses Vijay’s film

By Behindwoods News Bureau.
September 27, 2007

Director Dharani in Kollywood circles is known as a stickler for discipline and perfectionism. Reliable sources reveal that he will not compromise for anything mundane and would expect a top notch performance from his cast. For this reason the call sheet that is generally allotted by the artists to Dharani’s project will far exceed that given to any other film.

It has been reported that in Kuruvi, the upcoming directorial venture of Dharani, the lead players Vijay and Trisha have each given more than one hundred days to the film. This by Kollywood standards is a very long duration.

In the mean time, while finalizing the artists for comedy track in Kuruvi, Vaigai Puyal Vadivelu has been approached but Dharani wanted at least seventy days with the comedian. This was not found acceptable by Vadivelu who is generally accustomed to giving one week to a maximum of two weeks per film. So the actor has refused Kuruvi. We need to wait and watch who would fit the bill for providing comic relief in the film.

Shooting for Azhagiya Tamizh Magan completed

'Azhagiya Thamizh Magan' is complete
- 26.09.2007

More than the rasikas, Vijay is eager to see 'Azhagiya Thamizh Magan.' Among the 40 films he has done, it seems the story of this film is very unique.

According to the film's sources, Vijay plays the character of Guru, a person who has the gift of foreseeing future events.

Songs play an important role in Vijay's films. Since AR Rehman is the composer for 'Azhagiya Thamizh Magan,' expectations are twice as high. An important song is "ponmagal vandhaal..." from the Sivaji film 'Sorgam' and has been re-mixed by AR Rehman.

Director Bharathan is shooting this song at grand sets put up at Chennai's Film City. Some Russian beauties dance in this number along with Vijay and Shriya. With this song, the shooting for 'Azhagiya Thamizh Magan' is complete and only post production work remains.

Even if the film is ready for release next month, it will hit the screen only for Deepavali.

Kollywoodtoday [ September 27, 2007 ]

More than his fans, Vijay himself was thrilled about the release of his upcoming flick Azhagiya Tamizh Magan. Despites starring in 40 films, Vijay says that this film is of a different storyline with an exceptional storyline.

Major portion of the shooting for film has been completed excluding the remix song sequence of ‘Ponmagal Vandhaal’ from the film Sivaji Ganeshan starrer ‘Sorgam’. The music has been remixed by A.R.Rahman and Director Bharathan has put up grand sets at Chennai Film City to shoot this song. Reports are that Russian beauty models will also be dancing along with Vijay and Shriya Charan in the song.

With this song, the shooting will be completed and post-production will be soon finished. Vijay performs the role of Guru who possesses the gift of foreseeing the future and buzzes are that it is a remake of a Malayalam flick titled Iyer The Great starring Mammooty and Geetha in the lead role.

The film is expected to hit the screens on the occasion of Diwali along with many great films like Bheema, Kaalai, etc.

Vijay narrowly escapes from a deadly fire mishap

By Behindwoods News Bureau.
September 26, 2007

In what could have been a major fire accident, Vijay managed to get away unhurt on the sets of ATM. His next venture ATM is progressing day in and day out in Hyderabad. A crucial scene demanded collision of a bus and a train for the movie. When the bus was made to collide with the train for the shoots, the petrol storage tank of the bus accidentally flew out of the vehicle and landed next to the actor exploding heavily.
Vijay

Vijay was luckily unhurt in the incident and was visibly shocked.

Stunt master FEPSI Vijayan expressed his disbelief on the incident and stated that it was sheer luck that Vijay escaped unhurt. Normally, in such explosion scenes the petrol tank of the vehicle would be kept open to prevent such incidents. However, it is learnt that the lid of the storage tank of the bus was inadvertently not removed that resulted in the incident.

As per the scene that was shot, Namita’s family sets out on a journey in the bus to visit Vijay. They watch a movie in the bus and are indulged so much so that they fail to notice the level crossing or the train that is fast approaching. What follows is an ordeal of fire fighting that involves Vijay who helps the passengers in the bus, especially a little girl, to get out of the bus unharmed.

Simbu sings about Vijay!

IndiaGlitz
[Monday, September 24, 2007]

Actor-director Silambarasan has a penchant for music too. He has sung several songs including "Loose penney" before.

He had crooned for Sarath Kumar too. Now the yong actor will render his voice for a kuthu song in the movie Mahamagam.

Here’s a sample bit of the lyrics : "Pokkiri na Vijay da, Villain na Ajith da, rendu perukkum ivan dosth da. Polladhavan na Dhanush da, Kettavan na Simbu da, vachukatha ivankitta vambu da".

This racy number would be shot soon in grand sets, for which Sundar C and Suja will shake their legs to the beats of Dhina.

Vijay, Ajith, Dhanush and Simbu – all in one song
By Behindwoods News Bureau.
September 22, 2007

Sundar C, the director-turned- actor, has established himself as a minimum guarantee actor with the success of Thalainagaram and the recently released Veerappu. His victory is mainly attributed to the variety that he presents in his movies as they contain all the elements that are required such as comedy, action, songs, dance to name a few. This right mixture has ensured his success thus far.

As a measure to try out something new in his latest venture, Mahamagam (earlier Porikki), Simbu has been roped in to render his voice for a kuthu song. Here's a sampler: "Pokkiri na Vijay da, Villain na Ajith da, rendu perukkum ivan dosth da. Polladhavan na Dhanush da, Kettavan na Simbu da, vachukatha ivankitta vambu da."

Sundar C and Suja will dance to the tunes of music director Dhina for this song. With Simbu's earlier ventures in foot-thumpers proving to be hits, this song is sure to create hype in the Kollywood circles.

Inter-departmental fest at Loyola College

The function ended with actor Vijay obliging the students’ demands to sing a few lines

CHENNAI: The auditorium was jam-packed. Excited whispers, craned necks and a multitude of cameras being set up filled the few moments it took actor Vijay to walk in. The cheers when the students saw him took at least five minutes to stop.

The inter-departmental fest at Loyola College, ‘Ovations 2007,’ drew to a close on Saturday after two days of cultural and literary events both on and off stage.

At the valedictory, Vijay, chief guest of the evening, said coming to Loyola brought back fond memories of his days as a student in the college. “Many students who are from Loyola have gone on to occupy high positions and become successful,” he said, urging the students to study hard but have fun too.

The college fares well both in academics and extra-curricular activities, its deputy principal John Pragasam said.

The function ended with Vijay obliging the students’ demands to sing a few lines.

Around 20 departments of the college participated in the events, which included collage, light music, theme dance and creative writing. The overall championship was awarded to the students of the Visual Communications department, who cheered with extra vigour and delight as this happens to be the department Vijay studied.

The runners-up of the competition were the students of the Commerce Shift II department. On Friday, the first day of the fest, actor Vikram was present.

What makes Vijay an ILLAYATHALAPATHY?

“Sathyamoorthy” of” Pokkiri”, “Muthappa” of “Sivakasi”, “Sachein” of “Sachein’, “Sivagiri” of “Thirupachi” and “Saravanavel” of Ghilli------ ---what is the common thread that links all these unforgettable characters?

When you ponder over it for a few minutes, the answer is very obvious- they are the names of the characters that Vijay has portrayed in his films, and they are all funny, endearing, mischievious, impulsive and romantic guys, with a larger- than -life appeal.

Vijay is today heralded as-“ILLAYATHALAPATHY VIJAY”, (a name given to him by his fans) because of his choice of roles which the common man and the mass audience are able to relate to and empathize with. Vijay’s movies always rely on the universal doctrine of “Victory of good over evil” which again is very well received by his fans. Seldom does he change his appearance, be it in the form of clothing or hairstyles, yet each character he portrays remains etched in our memories forever. He knows exactly what his fans want from him and how to deliver just that and more with a lot of spunk and panache.

Vijay’s dazzling screen presence, his naughty smirk, his fiery eyes spewing anger, his amazing comic timing and his signature dance style, enthrall the audience and keep them glued to their seats. He is a one man show, being able to act, sing, dance and do comedy, making it all look like a piece of cake.

On the personal front, he is a man of few words, courteous, extremely simple and very down-to-earth. His whole world revolves around his parents, wife, kids and of course all his fans. He himself is a die-hard Rajini fan and brushes off all comparisons made between him and the Superstar, saying that there is only one superstar and he reigns supreme, no one else can take his place. Rajinikanth on the other hand is known to possess a special liking to Vijay and affectionately addresses him as “Thambi”.

vijay

Vijay lives up to his screen persona of a Good Samaritan by rendering himself to social causes like education, food, and clothing for the poor and needy. He also constantly encourages his fan clubs to reach out to the less fortunate and to get involved in social service and charity.

Vijay’s charisma transcends all age and sex barriers, his fans range from little kids to college students to married couples to grandparents. Every movie release is like a major festival in and around Chennai and its suburbs. It is always a big celebration of sorts complete with fireworks, music, dance and thronging crowds of eager fans who just want a glimpse of their hero.

Vijay

I myself became an ardent fan of Vijay after I saw “Ghilli”, and I have watched every one of his movies ever since. What I like best about him is his flawless dialogue delivery—no matter what kind of scene it is, his every word is packed with so much sincerity, conviction and resolve.

Another question which constantly plagues me is how he manages to look younger by the day….what is your secret Vijay??

“Illayathalapathy” essentially means “young leader” or “youth icon” and Vijay definitely is one in every sense of the word.

On recently being conferred an honorary doctorate for his tremendous contribution to Tamil cinema and all the social causes that he supports, we at Behindwoods wish him more success, power, glory, claps and whistles.

ATM's producer accedes

By Behindwoods News Bureau.
September 12, 2007

With the impending release of the Vijay's movie Azhagiya Tamil Magan, the legal suit pertaining to the story rights reached a feverish pitch at the Chennai High Court. It may be recalled that producer Mohammad Farook had claimed that ATM's story belonged to him but the movie's producer Appachan has fraudulently used it as his own.

When this matter was taken up with the Producers' Council, Appachan agreed to pay a sum of Rs. 6 lakh as compensation to Farook, just to avoid any future problems. After paying a token sum of Rs. 1 lakh, however, the producer did not pay the balance as promised.

Aggrieved by this, Farook appeal to the High Court for the payment of the balance amount. When this issue had come up for hearing before the division bench comprising Chief Justice A.P. Shah and Justice Jyothimani, it was enquired if the remaining Rs. 5 lakhs, along with interest be paid to the complainant to which Appachan's advocate agreed. Following this, the complainant agreed to withdraw the case.

Vijay dances to a Sivaji song

Cinesouth.com
- 12.09.2007

Till now, only MGR, Rajini and Kamal songs have been re-mixed.

For the first time, a Sivaji number has been re-mixed for 'Azhagiya Thamizh Magan,' a film that Vijay has great expectations of in his film career.

The film has already sold for 25 crores and created a record. The music is by AR Rehman. Director Barathan was joyous that even before the film work started, Rehman had given him 3 songs. It is said AR Rehman has given him one more boon.Rehman is not for re-mixing old numbers, but in SJ Suryah's film 'New,' he was forced to remix 'Thottaal poo malarum' from 'Padakotti.' He did not remix like others, but retuned it.

For 'Azhagiya Thamizh Magan,' Rehman is supposed to have done a re-mix of 'pon magal vandhaal, porul kodi thandhaal' from the Sivaji film 'Sorgam.' Barathan plans to shoot this song with Vijay and Shriya on grand sets.

We are not sure if it is a remix or a retune!

ATM for Rs. 20 crores

By Behindwoods News Bureau.
September 10, 2007

The two young generation superstars, Vijay and Ajith, are ready for the Diwali battle. With the distributors getting ready to empty their bank accounts, the theatres are gearing up their renovations to accommodate the huge crowds. And when there is a Vijay and Ajith battle, their fans are sure to get excited and a superlative opening for both is in the offing.

It is not something new for both these actors to have a movie release on the same day and the success percentage is almost equal. With the recent head-to-head clash being Pokkiri and Aalwar, where Vijay had the last laugh and prior to that when Aadhi and Paramasivan hit the screens Ajith won the battle. Who will win this battle is yet to be seen.
Vijay

Saimira Productions has bought the worldwide rights of Azhagiya Tamil Magan for an astounding Rs. 20 crores. The house is very happy with the buy.

Billa team has also let out their price, stated to be Rs. 15 crores. Three companies are in the race for this project. Adlabs, co-producer of Ajith's latest movie Kreedom, is willing to buy the movie, as it was one of their few profitable ventures. London Karunas of Ayngaran films is also eyeing the rights of the film. It is a known fact that London Karunas is the frontrunner to produce Ajith's next movie. But, what is more surprising is that, Saimira who has also procured the rights of ATM, is showing some keenness too.

It would be quite interesting as the same company will have both Ajith and Vijay movies in their kitty. And if that happens, the release of one of the movies might be postponed as the company won't want a dent on the collections of both their projects. Let's wait for the official statement and hope this Diwali does become a Thala and Ilayathalapathy Diwali.

The story behind Nayan's oust from Kuruvi

By Behindwoods News Bureau.
September 05, 2007

Vijay's next mega project Kuruvi to be directed by Dharani and produced by Udaynidhi Stalin is in the news, but this time associated with the fairer sex. The project when announced featured the hit combination of Gilli team, viz. director Dharani, hero Vijay, heroine Trisha and music director Vidya Sagar.

Later on news began to leak about Trisha being expelled from the project and names like Vidya Balan were said to be in the race for Ilaya Thalapathy's arm candy. Then the news was brandished as baseless rumor.
Nayantara & Trisha
However, last few days witnessed the print and the portal media bringing in Nayantara as the replacement for Trisha. She was also rumored to have signed on the dotted line. When the matter was probed it was found that some of the unit members felt that Trisha and Vijay combination is turning out to be a bit stale and a fresh new combination can be tried out and this freshness can be rendered by Nayantara who certainly looks ravishing these days with the loss of lot of flab. But according to insiders, due to the comfort levels expressed by Dharani with Trisha (they have featured in the mega hit Gillie) has tilted the balance in her favor.

It has also been said that to accommodate Trisha who is currently shooting in Hyderabad for 'Chennaiyil oru mazhaikalam' , the first schedule of Kuruvi will also be filmed in the Andhra Pradesh capital. So Trisha has finally proved mightier than Nayantara, after all!

But now, it seems that Trisha is back in Kuruvi. A photo shoot for the film was held at Hyderabad and Vijay-Trisha shot for it together.

Trisha back in `Kuruvi`?

By Moviebuzz | Tuesday, 04 September , 2007, 08:26

In a sensational turn-around, Trisha has made a comeback as the heroine of Vijay in Dharani directed Kuruvi, produced by Udayanidhi Stalin!

Remember that three days back, sify.com had broke the news that Nayanthara had replaced Trisha as the heroine?

Well now it looks like Trisha has come back into the project and will be shooting with Vijay, when Kuruvi starts rolling for two days from September 14 in Chennai.

When contacted in Hyderabad, where she is shooting for Gautham Menon's Chennayil Oru Mazhaikalam, Trisha said: " Just wait and watch, no comments".

Meanwhile on Monday afternoon, Dharani was spotted at the Chennai airport along with dress designer Anu and hair dresser Bhanu as they took a flight to Hyderabad to brief Trisha on her Kuruvi look!

Nayantara out, Trisha in
IndiaGlitz [Tuesday, September 04, 2007]

After several rounds of in and out, Trisha has finally pipped Nayantara to bag the heroine's role in Kuruvi.

In a sensational turnaround, Trisha has made a comeback as the heroine of Vijay in Dharani directed Kuruvi, produced by Udayanidhi Stalin.

Just a couple of days ago, sources in the production house confirmed that Nayantara would be the heroine.

Dharani, Vijay and music composer Vidyasagar, who came together to create magic on screen with Gilli, are back again for Kuruvi. It meant Trisha, who was part of the Gilli team, missing the bus.

Dharani has denied rumours that Kuruvi would be a sequel to Gilli. Vijay is fast wrapping up the shooting for Azhagiya Tamil Magan and is expected to commence shooting for Kuruvi soon.

In a turnaround, Trisha has reportedly replaced Nayantara now. Dharani has left to Hyderabad to brief Trisha on her role in Kuruvi.

Alas, Trisha has pipped Nayantara now to bag the plump offer.

Trisha absent; Shriya present!!

It was a colorful evening at the roof top swimming pool party area of Hotel Park located near Gemini circle.

Almost all the leading young stars except Ajith have assembled there for a party. Don't come to the conclusion that all were assembled to float a new political outfit. They have came to attend a private party hosted by Illayathalapathy Dr. Vijay to celebrate the actor getting doctorate from MGR University recently.

Except the actors close friends, no other persons in the industry have allowed in to the party area. The hotel administration had restricted that particular area for media persons who were there to attend some other commercial press meet.

Our Kollywood sources say that the actor along with his wife Sangeetha has welcomed his friends selectively invited to the cocktail dinner.

Later one of the attendees of the party said that Shriya, the heroine of the actor's forthcoming film Azhagiya Tamil Magan has came to the party in a seductive costume and enjoyed the party till late night. The actor's other Kollywood guest list included his long time friend Reema Sen, 'Chiyaan' Vikram, Dharani, Nayanthara, Dhanush and Aishwarya Danush.

Udayanidhi Stalin, the producer of Vijay's forthcoming project Kuruvi, actor Vishal also have attended the party. However there was no news about Trisha's presence in the party!

Vil shifts hands from Suryah to Vijay

By Behindwoods News Bureau.
September 02, 2007

Vijay gave away a title that was reserved for his project, to director Kicha for an upcoming Sathyaraj-starrer. The title which was reserved for him was “Thangam” for Director Dharani’s remake of Telugu movie Bangaram in Tamil. But for reasons unknown the movie didn’t take off.

S.A. Chandrashekar, father of Dr. Vijay, wanted a title called “Vil” as he thought such a name would be more apt for his son’s movie as it represents power, accuracy and action. But then he came to know that the title was already reserved for S.J. Suryah’s movie.

Nic Arts Chakravarthy, the producer of the film, wanted to make a movie with a title starting with “V”. But on request from Vijay’s side he had accepted and let go off the title and is now hunting for another title which starts with “V”.

It is said the title Vil will be used for director Prabhu Deva’s movie which is produced by Ayngaran Karunas – another Vijay-starrer after ATM and Kuruvi. Let’s wish S.J.Suryah and Nic Arts Chakravarthy get a suitable “V” title soon.

Nayanthara opposite Vijay!

By Moviebuzz | Saturday, 01 September , 2007, 16:44

Nayanthara has replaced Trisha as Vijay's heroine in Dharani directed Kuruvi, produced by Udayanidhi Stalin!

Says Nayanthara: “I have signed Kuruvi. I will be completing my present assignments and starting the film sometime towards the end of October." Nayan has given bulk dates for the film, which will start rolling by September 15 in Chennai.

For Nayan it is her first film with Vijay as hero, though earlier she had done a cameo song appearance in Sivakasi (Kodambakkam area…), which gave her a big boost. Actually the fans of Ilayathalapathy have been clamoring after Vijay to cast Nayan as his heroine.

Nayan also denied reports in the media that she has signed a film with Arya to be directed by cameraman R.D.Rajasekhar. Said Nayan: “ I have not even heard the script. Then how do I do the film?”

Kuruvi will be launched by mid-September and Nayan is expected to join the unit by November after she completes work on her Telugu project, Billa and Yaradi Nee Mohini. This makes Nayan the `numero uno` star of Kollywood as she has the pick of films with top stars.

Security beefed up for Vijay

By Behindwoods News Bureau.
September 01, 2007

Strict security cover which has not been witnessed hitherto in Tamil film industry is being extended to three film shootings which are being held in the city. As a result technical crew associated with the film is finding it an arduous task to reach the work spot.

Currently a song involving Vijay and Shriya is being picturized for Azhagiya Tamil Magan in a massive set in Binny Mills and Ajith's Billa and Jeyam Ravi's Santosh Subramanian are being filmed at A V M studios. To view the shooting and their favorite stars, there is a constant stream of visitors to these studios, as a result of which shooting gets hindered at various levels. To combat this issue, the film units have sought the help of private security agencies who are providing the shooting spot an immaculate security cover. It has also been said that Ajith's Billa has been provided with three tiers of security.

When a unit source was questioned about this sudden increase of protection, it was revealed that people who come to the sets with expensive cell phones directly record the stars, their costumes, shooting sets and even some sequences which find their way into the web portals. There were even few song sequences which were telecast in a private television channel before the film hit the screens. This reduces the curiosity which is generally linked to a film and affects its performance too. Hence to protect from such miscreants, the production team has enforced strict security cover for the shooting.
