Vijay's record of 75 days!

In his film career, Vijay has never seen such a long intermission. It is about fifty days since 'Aathi' got released, but Ilaya Dalapathy is yet to announce his next film. For the past few years, Vijay has always made a film every 3 months. Last year end, he did not wait for the 3 months to end.

Shortly after release of 'Sivakasi,' 'Aathi' also got released. He's reaping the result of that mistake, gossip industry insiders. On his part, Vijay had wanted a Feb or March release for 'Aathi' but theatre owners and distributors compelled producer S A Chandrasekhar to agree to a Pongal release. They must have been in a hurry to reap the Pongal profits.

So, when 'Aathi' was released on Jan 15th, the haste of the release and the sub-standard nature of the film made the film a box office disaster, with the result that theatre owners protested that SAC should compensate them for the loss. Having always given hits, Vijay takes this disaster as a loss of face. To add to the insult, there are lots of jokes being made about Vijay and 'Aathi' through sms. Rajini faced similar problems when his 'Baba' flopped. Like guru, like shishya!

'Chandramukhi' put Rajini right on top again and Vijay is looking for one such film that will resurrect his shredded reputation.Once the film 'Puli' under S J Suryah's direction did not take off, it was announced that Vijay would do 'Murasu' directed by Perarasu's brother Muthu Vadugu. Sources close to Vijay say he is not happy with the story and has asked for changes. It is more than 75 days since Vijay reported for a shooting.

Such a long gap has never happened in the past 10 years. What a fate for a star, who is most successful next to Rajini only in collection.Like him, Vikram is resting for the past 125 days. Even after deciding that his next project is 'Bhima' directed by Lingusamy, he is yet to report for shooting. The reason is he's not yet fully satisfied with the story of 'Bhima.'

Looks like director Priyadarshan was right when he spoke of a famine of good stories in Tamil cinema!
