Give them back – Vijay style

By Behindwoods News Bureau.
February 28, 2008

When it comes to taking care of people who work for him, Ilaya Thalapathy Vijay always goes the extra mile.
Vijay

The actor who usually meets his fans at his Saligramam residence has decided on a change of venue. He has shifted his office out of the place and moved it over to his marriage hall. Now the palatial house is separated into smaller compartments and has been given over to his support team. His driver, his personal make-up man and his favorite cook stay there free of cost.

His fans too are happy to meet him at the kalyana mandapam, since it is bigger place and can hold more people. Vijay has two marriage halls, one at Vadapalani and Saligramam each, and is building a third one near Ambatur.

Perhaps this is Ilaya Thalapathy style of saying thanks to not just his fans but those who work closely with him.

Nayanthara with Vijay

Good times have once again commenced for Nayanthara who is in an upbeat mood ever since Billa was declared a hit. Her next project with Dhanush, Yaaradi Nee Mohini is set to hit the screens soon and the lady has been swamped with plum assignments. Earlier she had missed the opportunity to be paired with Ilaya Thalapathy in Kuruvi by a whisker to Trisha. But now she is making up for all the lost offers.
Nayanthara

She has signed on the dotted line in an unnamed film to be produced by Ayngaran international and directed by Prabhu Deva where Vijay will be the hero. Though she has danced in an item number in Sivakasi, this is the first time that the duo will be coming together as hero and heroine. Meanwhile Nayan's kitty is full with prestigious offers in the form of Kuselan with super star, Aegan with Ajith and now with Vijay too. The lady's career is certainly on an enviable path.

Good luck Nayan.

Nayantara with Vijay
Galatta.com

The two have not shared screen space beyond that enrapturing dance number in Sivakasi. The two almost starred together in Kuruvi, but for reasons unknown, Nayan withdrew and Trisha took the spot. But having sampled the pair in the Sivakai song, fans having been waiting for Nayantara and Vijay to act together. And looks like that wish is soon to be fulfilled!

The latest news making its rounds in the cine circle is that Nayan has signed on for a film to be directed by Prabhu Deva, which has Vijay in the lead! It appears to us that her sexy stint in Billa has created waves, landing the actress some terrific roles including the lead in Ajith's next movie Aegan!

Vijay's Interview

Thalapathy's Interview @ ChennaiActive

What are the problems your character dealt with in Azhagiya Thamizh Magan?

They are mostly somebody else’s problems but he gets involved in them. I am called Guru in that film. That is a good name because for some reason the name Guru on a young man denotes the ability of being a good leader. Unlike my usual films I had a special ‘Quote’ in that film.

What’s the secret behind your Quotes in films? How useful is it in films?

I have the same set of words which I deliver in different styles in different situations. My Quotes make the audience laugh because of the way i present it. I say it slowly, sometimes fast, sometimes sarcastically and the audience appreciate with laughter and claps. It was useful to make the screen play interesting.

You started as an action hero; you did as many as five films as an action star before you switched gears and started doing soft and romantic roles?

Yes I did it because I felt the need to try something else, but its just for a change.

But looking back, that was a turning point in your career “Poove Unakkaga ” ,“Priyamanavalae” were huge hits?

I know what you are going to say, you want to know why I turned my back on romance and went back to action even though I was doing extremely well in romance?

What do you think about “Azhagiya Thamizhmagan” even though it is not a successful film?

I love that film. I play a dual role of a mild mannered person who doesn’t look out for trouble.

You mean the type that is scared of a fight?

Far from that! My man does not even go looking around for a scrap. But every now and then he gets involved in some kind of trouble.

Yes and all the more when you had not succeeded greatly in action films?

The reason is the same. I can’t make it to the top doing small romantic films. Yes the soft films gave me a stand, but it was films like Puthiya Geethai, Thamizhan, Bhagawathi, Thirumalai and Gilli that gave me a full fledged hero status. The distributors and my fans like me in these types of films.Particularly when these are the very films that pulled in the maximum number of people. Why should I change a winning formula? Why fix something when it didn’t break?

A lot of your films are remakes like Pokkiri which was a remake from the original version in Telugu by Mahesh Babu. Why?

Why not? Mahesh did an awesome job and I felt like trying the same. The strange thing is that even when I listen to new stories ,some blockbusters would come up, and me along with my dad and wellwishers would say, ‘Why not do that in Tamil’? Do you know that I had listened to the story of ATM a long time ago and decided to do it? Everything was ready when Pokkiri came along and then we changed our course. It was a blockbuster so nobody could complain. As a matter of fact when we heard the story of Pokkiri we had not even decided who will direct the film. We just went ahead and acquired the right person : Prabhu Deva was the one who finally did it.

How was it working with Prabhu Deva who is actually a dance director?

Actually working with Prabhu Deva when he is the dance director is fun. He is a cool guy when it comes to choreography. After all he only had to make me dance to his steps, so he can be a relaxed person. But when he turned director he was a changed man. He was naturally on the edge. Direction is tension business.

Was he a hard task master?

Yes!! But that is because he is the captain on the ship when he directs a film. If he was in awe and would think to himself that he need not press for that final bit of perfection because I am a star he might have taken it easy. But that is not Prabhu Deva. I guess that is why he makes those hits.

Why do you use remixed songs so often?

It seems to be a trend. Directors seem to want them and my fans love them. The fact that my fans end up downloading them as ring tones must mean something.

Could you mention about your next project “Kuruvi’ and the co-workers in it?

Kuruvi is presently under production with Dharani as director and Trisha as the heroine. The music is by A.R.Rahman and that will produce sophisticated ringtones. We seem to be lucky for each other. Please wait and see how well Shriya Saran fares opposite me.

What do you reckon about your position in theindustry a NO1 or a NO2 or what?

I don't need to think about that. I really don’t care. I just want my film to be a hit and after that I want my next film to be a hit. No number business!

When will you do a film under your dad’s direction?

Actually I was scheduled to do a film with him but then Pokkiri came along. Maybe I will do one after Kuruvi.

Do you nurse an ambition to direct a film yourself?

No way. That’s one ambition that I do not have. As a matter of fact it will not happen. I do not like ‘Tension’. I leave that to other’s.

What if someone asks you to direct?

No chance.

What about films in other languages.

Not a chance. I’ll stick to Tamil.

Why do you always join hands only with the familiar and successful directors?

Not always. Some of the producers reveal that the project will be safer if that particular individual directs. I agree if my call-sheet and dates of the director are available at a stretch. This is the way and how a team happens. It may become impossible most of the time, even though I want to work with a particular director.

Vijay Plays Censor!

actor vijay

Hero Vijay is now busy with his latest film "Kuruvi". After watching the rushes, Vijay has donned the role of a censor. He has opted for some cuts. Most of them pertain to his action scenes. Vijay feels that some scenes are too dreamlike, even for his die-hard fans.

Hence he wants some of the actions scenes to be either chopped or toned down. Just goes to show that Vijay has his ears pressed firmly to the ground. In an age when heroes want bigger and bigger fights and stunts, Vijay seems to hold a absolutely opposite view, very sensible, but grounded in reality!

By Behindwoods News Bureau.
February 19, 2008

Vijay was the chief guest at the 50th anniversary celebration of the Fatima Matriculation School in Chennai. Present also were the mayor and the city commissioner. Vijay gave the keynote address. In his speech, he urged students to focus sharply on one career or ambition and follow it with determination.

Vijay
He cited the examples of the lives of Graham Bell and Edison who came from humble families, and yet revolutionized the world. “I wanted to be a doctor”, said Vijay, “but instead became an actor.” From now on my movies will feature scenes that children will like, he added. His favorite movie for a long time has been the Rajini-starrer, Raja Chinna Roja, and he would love to be in a remake of it. If any producer wants to remake it, he said, he would sign up for it right away.

Vijay interested in children’s movie

Galatta.com
February 19, 2008, 10:37:14 AM

Given that he’s been working on action flicks for years together now, this statement is quite hard to believe. Yet, this is what he said at the 50th year celebrations of Fathima Matriculation School. Vijay interested in children’s movie

Vijay, who studied in this school, was the special guest at the event presided over by Mayor Subramaniam and Police Commissioner Nenjil Kumaran. When asked to address the gathering, Vijay expressed his heartfelt joy and pride that his school was celebrating its 50th year. He then advised the children to set solid goals and give their utmost efforts to accomplish those.

It was then that he mentioned his desire to act in a children’s movie. If the Rajni starrer Raja Chinna Roja is ever remade, he said he would love to play the lead in it! He’s thrown an idea. Any takers?

Vijay, the producer, is ready to experiment

IndiaGlitz
[Monday, February 18, 2008]

‘Ilaya Thalapathy’ Vijay has finally decided to venture into producing films on his own. The decision could make wonders in his career, as he has decided to make some experiments in his own films.

 Vijay Gallery

So far, Vijay hasn’t tried anything different in terms of changing the get ups or donning different roles. The reason for not trying anything different is that he wants to ensure good business to the investors of his films. In other words, he doesn’t want to take risk at others cost. So he has so far stuck to the commercial boundaries.

However, after establishing his place as a successful commercial hero, Vijay now wants to try out something different and that too, at his own risk.

Vijay’s decision is commendable, as taking risk at one’s own cost is not an easy joke. Let us welcome the decision and look forward to see a new Vijay in his own films soon.

Kuruvi in a pit!

Galatta.com

And we mean Kuruvi in a pit! literally! The Kuruvi crew that flew back home after a schedule across the ocean, is now perched at Salem! A 10 feet deep pit has been dug and some really pivotal scenes are being filmed inside it!

The pit is surrounded by more than a dozen cops, who while catching glimpses of the fast progressing shoot, are also keeping a watch out for on-lookers who might just fall in. It is also said that spectators are firmly asked not to use their moblies in the premises especially to take pictures of the goings on in the pit.

This just makes one wonder what exactly is happening inside! When we know, you will too!

Kuruvi - To fly high!

By Moviebuzz
Wednesday, 06 February , 2008, 12:24

Ilayathalapathy Vijay is happy with the way his Kuruvi is progressing. The story is racy as there is never a dull moment in Dharani's script. Vijay knows that ultimately Tamil super hero films are all character driven, and he is taking extra care to see that the character he plays in the film clicks with the masses.

According to Vijay watchers what went wrong with ATM, was the film lacked a villain and it was basically a story of "good" Vijay versus "bad" Vijay which his audiences could not stomach. Now in Kuruvi, the buzz is that the villain character played by Suman is strong and the conflict with the hero has been worked out in a realistic way. Last week Ashish Vidyarthi too has been added to the cast of the film.

Vidyasagar's music is said to be a major highlight. The latest we hear is that Ilayathalapathy is going to dance with the rap singer from Malaysia Yogi.B, the pop singer who made a sensational debut in Tamil films by dancing and singing the remix song Engeyum Eppodhum…. with Dhanush in Polladhavan. That one song in Kuruvi where Vijay and Yogi dances together is sure to have his fans in a frenzy!

Kuruvi has completed a large chunk of its shoot in Chennai city locales and studios, outdoor in Malaysia's never- seen- before locations. Next week the shoot of the film moves to a quarry in Salem, and from there to Theni and later they will be shooting near Pune. The film is said to be Vijay's big summer release in May/June.

Why does Vijay like kalyana mandapams so much?

By Behindwoods News Bureau.
February 05, 2008

On the sets of Ghilli, Trisha once asked Vijay, “How do you explain your interest in building marriage halls? There are so many of them in different parts of the city?" Smiling, the star replied: “I like marriage halls because to me they symbolise many good things in life - a new beginning, hope, happiness, laughter and communion. Aren't they reasons enough for building them?” Trisha answered; “They sure are!”
Vijay

Vijay named one of the marriage halls after his mother, the other after his son, Sanjay. Building marriage halls for people to use is one of many charities the star is actively involved in. Now he is all set to build a new kalyana mandapam in Koratur, near Ambatur. What his fans are curious to know is, who will it be named after? His daughter, Divya Saasha, maybe?

Security concerns of the heroes

IndiaGlitz
[Saturday, February 02, 2008]

Popular actors have the habit of arranging for their own security in public places. It is because of the habit of frenzied fans rounding up even the junior artistes for autographs and hand shakes. Sometimes they go overboard and hence popular actors are forced to think about their security in public places.

MGR, the yesteryear's superstar and the most popular of his era, used to have some strong body guards as his personal securities. Kamal Haasan is accompanied by some weight lifting champions while attending public functions. Their strong and muscular bodies would discourage anyone, who tries to cross the limit. Now Vikram follows the same path.

Though Vijay is accompanied only by his fan club president, five strong persons always follow his car, when he goes around in public places. Silambarasan and Ajith have the habit of coming with friends, while Dhanush has started to have security arrangements after he got a severe injury in his hand because of a fan's over enthusiasm.

Surprisingly, no actress has such an arrangement to protect herself in public places. Fans do not mob their dream girls as they mob their heroes.
