Vijay heaps praises on his mom

IndiaGlitz [Tuesday, June 27, 2006]

A noted playback singer and mother of actor Vijay, Shobha Chandrasekhar rendered a Carnatic music concert in Chennai on Sunday that was attended by classical music lovers.

Having learnt Carnatic music in the last few years, it was the maiden concert of Shobha Chandrasekhar. She performed for over an hour.

Later at a function held at the venue to felicitate her, actor Vijay said, 'She has made everyone of us proud. She has proved that age is no barrier to learn new things in life. I am a great admirer of my mother's talents'.

Shobha Chandrasekhar, on her behalf, thanked her Gurus for helping her to perform with ease in front of such big crowds. It's not an easy joke to perform in front of such a big and knowledgeable crowd and all credit should go to them for it, she added.

It may be added that Shobha had recently released a Carnatic music collection sung by her.

Vijay suprise visit to Reema's Sify web launch

Sifymax hosted www.reemasen.sifymax.com, the official website of actress Reema Sen at the `Courtyard Marriott' in Chennai.

It was the biggest ever website launch for any actress in South , a grand event that brought together some of the big names in Tamil film industry. Reema dressed in a Fuschia silk corseted (majenta) sleeveless top with a beautiful white gypsy skirt looked stunning.

However, the big surprise of the evening was when Vijay, Trisha, Khushboo, Sandhya, Arya, director Dharani, producer Thenappan dropped in to "give moral support to Reems" to quote Vijay!
The surprise guest for the function was Vijay the superstar of Tamil cinema who walked in casually in a white shirt and blue faded jeans. He came in wished Reema and was in his elements cracking jokes and said in a lighter vein "This Reema a good friend of mine, is a pain … a torture…that's why I am here to wish her all the best."

Follow Mahesh:Rajini Advice to Vijay

Rajinikant has seen Pokiri and is very happy with the film. He has advised Vijay who's doing the remake not to change anything because the original feel might go missing. His suggestion applied to the direction department that is Prabhudeva who is incharge of it.

He asked Vijay to follow Mahesh word to word and assured success in the tamil version. Who says experience doesn't count?

Pasupathy has walked out of Prabhu Deva directed Vijay film Pokiri, even before the shooting has started! Pasupathy who was signed to do the film now says that the character he was supposed to do, does not excite him and it is a routine role that he has done in many films.

Pasupathy saw the Telugu Pokiri and was signed to do the role of a lecherous police officer done by Ashish Vidyarthi. However, the buzz is that this character is nothing but the role that Ashish himself did in Vikram's Dhill some years back. So Pasupathy was not keen to do the role.

Now the actor will be doing Perarasu's Vijaykanth film Dharmapuri in which he will be pitted against the hero in a meaty and lengthy role.

A snapshot of Vijay’s expectation about Pokkiri

Vijay is eager to start work on Pokkiri. Here is a snapshot of what he expects from the film.

“ I have never worked under Prabudeva’s choreography. My wish has only been granted now. I am doubly delighted that he would also be the director. The original carried a great amount of energy. I am sure he would bring the same passion and I would get the chance to perform well.

Mani Sharma’s music is astounding and the songs would be on everyone’s lips. Asin plays the heroine. I have always shared a wonderful chemistry with her. In this film, she is like a gentle whiff of morning breeze and dew fresh flower who would delight every heart.”

Vijay on the starting blocks

IndiaGlitz [Friday, June 23, 2006]

Vijay's Pokiri will hit the floors on 6 July. The much-expected venture from Vijay is the remake of Telugu blockbuster Pokiri featuring Mahesh Babu in the lead role. The actor, who celebrated his birthday on Thursday without much fanfare, is happy at the few corrections made in the script made by director Prabhu Deva to suit Tamil audience.

The Pokiri has heavyweights like Asin, Prakash Raj, Nepolean among others. With music by Mani Sharma, who has proved a lucky mascot for Vijay before and cinematography by Nirav Shah, Pokiri is expected to revive Vijay's fortune in Kollywood.Beginning 6 July, plans are on to have the movie released for this Pongal.

Meanwhile, Vijay's birthday was a very private affair yesterday in terms of celebrations. To be sure, he mixed with the general public, his fans, made donations to orphanages, provided goodies and rice to the needy, took snaps with college boys, exchanged plesantaries with the industry hands. But Vijay's celebrations were all personal.

An intensely private man, Vijay always makes it a point to have moments with his family. All through the summer, when he was keeping a low profile not doing any movies, Vijay chose to spend the time with his daughter, son and wife Sangeetha.

Vijay, who described his next movie Pokiri would be the real brithday gift for his fans, also announced the setting up of a hospital in his late sister Vidya's name. This would be to help the poor, he said.

Vijay's birthday celebrations

Cinesouth - 22.06.2006

Today is Ilaya Dalapathi's birthday and his fans are swarming his house to convey their good wishes to him. Since the `Pokkiri' shooting is to start on July 6, Vijay is extra happy.

As usual, Vijay is doing some charity work personally and through his fan clubs. He has already started to issue 5 lakhs of note books to students from yesterday onwards. Today, Vijay will visit Little flower, Spastic Society, Mercy Home, Jerome Illam and Anbu Karangal to gift mid day meals to the inmates.

Uniforms to 500 school students will be given at Nagapattinam and Marungoor.

In his birthday message, Vijay asked his fans to give importance to education. "Every year, I help support the education of about 100 students. You also choose intelligent students who are poor and help support their education. Each one is talented in his/her own way. The important thing is to identify it and develop it."

Even though Vijay has specifically asked that no cut-outs or banners be used, his fans are still using banners and celebrating with loud speakers. According to them, the announcement of `Pokkiri' is Vijay's birthday gift to them.

Cinesouth wishes Ilaya Dalapathy a wonderful birthday!

Vijay is very happy that his film `Pokkiri' is finally set to start on July 6th. This morning, after blessings from his parents, Vijay gave food and other help to orphanages and other charity institutions.

When a disabled girl gave him a chocolate, Vijay had it and tapped her cheek in appreciation. Vijay gave laddus to his employees and taking out a pack of 100 rupee notes, distributed them, much to their joy. He gifted coat/suit to his assistants and posed with them for a photograph.

After that, Jayaseelan, Vijay fan club president and other members honored Vijay with a life size garland. He gave them sweet pongal and took a photo with them and his parents.

At the press meet, he had the following answers to the questions.

Did your father give you a birthday gift?
"Yes, he gave me a new car."

You always do some charity work for your birthday. Any plans now?
"I will continue to do what I am doing. I am very interesting in educating poor but talented students. And hope to do more of it in future to give them a good future."

Do you have any changes in mind for your fan clubs?
"My fan clubs should be used only for good things. For me family comes first, only then my fan clubs. I have already said that before. Other than that, I do not plan any changes."

You seem to be slimmer now. Are you on a diet?
"I don't see any difference. I always eat well and I'm continuing to eat as usual."

Nursing home after sister's name – Vijay news!

Cinesouth - 23.06.2006

Vijay is relaxing after a fabulous birthday celebration. It was an elaborate affair with feeding the poor, distributing free note books and uniforms. Every year Vijay has been helping the fans and students.

These are all being done in the name of the Trust operating in his sister's name. He has great love and affection for his sister. He is yet to reconcile himself to her loss.

Asked how he has always been calm, Vijay answered, "I am a very gregarious person. Spending time with my sister occupied my youth. Her sudden demise affected me very badly. That is one of the reasons for my being calm."

The trust operating in his sister name is set to branch off into nursing, college and so on. "Now we are helping students for their study through this Trust. There is a plan to start a nursing home to cater to the poor and a college for the benefit of the students.

This birthday news was sweeter to his fans than the sweets he distributed to them.

Vijay's Pokkiri all set to hit floors on July 6th

Behindwoods
June 22, 2006

Birthday boy Vijay has much riding on his slender shoulders. After the lukewarm performance of Adhi, the `Vasool Raja' amongst the younger crop is banking his hopes on Pokkiri. Keeping up with his policy of working on remakes of hits from other languages, this one from Telugu marks the entry of Prabhudeva as director of a Tamil film.

Pokkiri has a heavy weight crew. Ravishing Asin is the heroine. Nirav Shah is the cinematographer and Mani Sharma is the music director. Sreekar Prasad would be handling the editing and Pepsi Vijayan the stunts, while story, screenplay and direction is by Prabhudeva. Rameshbabu is the producer. The film is all set hit floors on July 6th, an auspicious shubha muhurat day.Vijay would have a very private birthday celebration.

But, he made sure that he put in his customary appearance for giving away welfare measures like clothes, books and notebooks to the poor and needy.Vijay's climb to success has been steady. He struggled initially despite having sound backing from his father, noted director SAC.

Yet, he worked hard to prove his mettle and today he is the numero uno when it comes to audience acceptance especially the youth. Way to go, Vijay! Happy birthday!!

Pokiri's new villain!!

June 20, 2006

After a six-month break, Vijay finally got back into action when the groundwork of the Tamil remake of the Telugu hit Pokiri began. He called the media and even announced the date of Puja. However, there is a small problem that has cropped, putting Vijay on the back foot.

Hearing the news that the Tamil Pokiri is the remake of the Telugu Pokiri, Vijay's fans are rushing to see the Telugu one. There is great demand for VCDs of the Telugu Pokiri.

Fearing that the shock value of the newness would go away, Vijay has asked some changes in the story be made so that his fans could see something new on the screen.

I love the path I am going on now. Also I think that people wanted the same Vijay what I am now. However, I'll do 1 film different for every 5 or 6 films. If situation wants me to do different, then I'll surely do so.

Aim: There is no aim as such for me. I came without any aims to the industry. I felt happy when people accepted me as an actor. Now people are comparing me with Rajini Sir. God has given me more than what I expected. So, I will work very hard to sustain that position.

Brindha Master speaks about Vijay

Courtesy: www.kumudam.com

Brindha, the famous dance master and who recently choreographed “Olli Olli Iduppe” song from Aadhi, speaks about the heroes and heroines she has worked with, in this week’s edition of Kumudham.

An excerpt from the interview relevant to Vijay:

When “Olli Olli Iduppe” song was shot in Switzerland, it was freezing cold out there. Everyone in the unit was wearing 2 jerkins. But Vijay and Trisha danced in light dresses in a cool manner, beautifully. If there is an interest in work like this, it is really easy to work with anyone.

“On the Spot Dance” means its only Vijay. I go very cool for Vijay’s shootings. Because we can compose any step as we wish. Just I will make lights on and tell him that “this is the step”. He will watch it carefully only once and will do it as it is.

He has the name of “Great Dancer” amongst his fans today. But not even once till now, he has asked me like “I want this step” or “This step is not nice. Change it” etc.

Once we teach him something, he will immediately grasp it and does it wonderfully.

How Asin signed up for Vijay's Pokkiri

June 17, 2006

They short-listed three heroines for Vijay's Pokkiri, the Tamil remake of the Telugu hit by the same name. Asin, Trisha and Ileana—one of them will pair with Vijay.Ileana, being the No1 heroine in Telugu, demanded 50 lakhs for her role.

Asin quoted 40 while Trisha said 30 was her rate. Even though Prabhu Deva wanted Ileana in the movie, the producer vetoed the proposal. He said she was new to Tamil and giving her 50 lakhs was a gamble.

They zeroed in on Trisha but last minute consultations saw her out. She was Vijay's pair in Aathi and the movie was a slump where as Vijay-Asin's Sivakasi was a big hit. Asin is also a favourite of Vijay's fans. That had brought her in.

For the producer, paying 10 lakhs more didn't matter much. Asin has a market, you see!

Warrant cancelled. Vijay gets a brief respite!!

June 15, 2006

We had told you that a warrant had been issued by Arcot Magistrate on actor Vijay in a case relating to the dialogues defaming lawyers in the film Sivakasi. The petitioner had stated that Vijay, comedian Baskar, director Perarasu and producer A.M. Rathnam had caused injury to the sentiments of the learned community and demanded an apology. Vijay and others did not appear in the court despite repeated summons. Last week, a warrant had been issued.

Responding to this, Vijay filed a petition in the court seeking cancellation of the warrant.

The Arcot Magistrate admitted his petition and directed him to be present in the court on July 6.

Vijay will go to court!

14.06.2006

The year 2006 has not been great so far for Vijay. First, his film `Aathi' flopped. Then it took 6 months for him to consider taking on his next project. Amidst all this, he has been issued an arrest warrant if he does not appear in court in connection with some scenes in his last film.

In a case filed by a lawyer Bhagavat Kumar in Ranipet, North Arcot Magistrate issued summons to `Sivakasi' producer A M Rathnam, hero Vijay, MS Bhaskar who played the lawyer role and director Perarasu, to appear in court. This is in protest for showing lawyers in a poor light in the film. When the case came up for hearing on June 7th, no one turned up. The magistrate issued an arrest warrant on all 4 and postponed the hearing to July 6th.

Those who have filed the case think just getting the 4 of them at the same time in court will serve the purpose of their lawsuit. However, the 4 think going to court means defeat.

The arrest warrant has weakened Vijay group's stand. Since there's no escaping the arrest warrant, Vijay has come to a decision.

His fan club executives have announced that as a law abiding citizen who will obey court rules, Vijay plans to appear in court on the specified day. So, before the police can take action, Vijay will be at court!

Naughty character for Vijay in `Pokkiri'

13.06.2006

After `Aathi' flopped, Vijay listened to umpteen number of stories till he finally gave the go ahead for `Pokkiri.' A smash hit in Andhra, `Pokkiri' is being re-made in Tamil.

Produced by Ramesh Babu for Kanakaratna Movies, the film is being directed by dancing star Prabhu Deva. Mani Sarma composes the music and camera is by Nirav Shah. The press meet took place in Chennai yesterday. Vijay, Asin, Prabhu Deva and Ramesh Babu met the press.

In the `Pokkiri' banner placed behind the dais, one could see a smiling Ilaya Dalapathi. Vijay finally broke his 5 month period of silence. "After `Aathi,' I took my time in finalizing a story that would give satisfaction to all. Among all the stories I heard, I liked `Pokkiri' the best. I play a mischievous character in that. I always wanted to dance to choreography by Prabhu Deva. Now that he's actually going to direct my film, I'm very happy. I enjoyed the film he has directed in Telugu. How nicely he has directed all the scenes. I'm sure he will make a success of `Pokkiri' too."

A crafty reporter asked Vijay which heroine was better suited to him – Trisha or Asin? "The fans have themselves said both are suitable," he responded smoothly. "Looks alone don't spell success for an actress. She also needs talent to have a long career."

Prabhu Deva was asked, "You are making your debut as director in Tamil films. Why did you choose a re-make?" "There's nothing wrong in doing a re-make of a good story. There's an element of risk in directing any story. As far as `Pokkiri' is concerned, I will write the screenplay and direct, but I won't act in it."

When reporters asked Asin which hero suited her, she gave a side glance at Vijay and said the audience has to answer that.

Announcing that `Pokkiri' would be ready for a Pongal release, producer Ramesh Babu gave bouquets to Vijay, Asin and Prabhu Deva.

"Nayantara vaaa?"

By Moviebuzz

She came, she saw, she conquered. Today Nayantara is hot property down South. It took her just six films to conquer the hearts of millions of audience. Now Nayan’s kitty is full with some really big projects both in Tamil and Telugu. She radiates natural warmth as Moviebuzz catches up with the actress at the location of Vallavan in Chennai.

Extract from the interview:

You have a very high success ratio as films like Chandramukhi, Ghajini, Sivakasi, Kalvanin Kathali and Telugu film Lakshmi were all super hits. Comments.

Yes I am lucky to be a part of these films. Though I have to confess on hindsight that the worst decision that I ever took was to do that role in Ghajini. My role did not shape out the way it was narrated to me and I was photographed badly. But I have no complaints as I consider all that as a learning experience. Now I make sure about the characters I do on screen.

Chandramukhi with Rajni sir and the song number with Vijay in Sivakasi gave me immense reach among the masses. And when Vijay himself says before the song- “Nayantara vaaa?”, it registered in the mind of the audience, created an aura, which really did wonders to my popularity.

Arrest warrant – Perarasu explains

13.06.2006

He has directed only 3 films, but Perarasu has already experienced income tax enquiry, court, case, summons, arrest warrant and so on!

In each film he makes, he seems to get involved in some controversy or other. In `Thirupachi,' the scene where Hit insect killer is used to kill someone was opposed by the manufacturer of Hit. In his second film `Sivakasi,' lawyers took him to court as protest for showing them in a poor light in the film.

In a case filed by a lawyer Bhagavat Kumar in Ranipet, North Arcot Magistrate issued summons to `Sivakasi' producer A M Rathnam, hero Vijay, MS Bhaskar who played the lawyer role and director Perarasu, to appear in court. No one put in a court appearance. When the case came up for hearing on June 7th, no one turned up.

The magistrate issued an arrest warrant on all 4 and postponed the hearing to July 6th. None of the 4 got the 3 summons sent to them. So, what really happened?

"Till now, I have received no summon or order to appear in court," says Perarasu!

One is sure to get the same answer from the other three as well!

Vijay turns Pokiri

Source: NewsToday

Stories had been doing the rounds of the probability of actor Vijay doing the remake of the Telugu blockbuster Pokiri. Now it is official. At a media briefing yesterday, Vijay said the Tamil film will have the same title.

'After Aathee, I wanted the next to be on a extravagant scale. Impressed with the Telugu film, decided to go ahead. All along had been waiting for the right project and thankfully it happened now.'

Outlining the knot, Vijay added that Pokiri is all about a baddie who gets rid of unscrupulous elements of the society. Only later it transpires that a cop was in the garb of a thug.'

The Telugu version featuring Mahesh Babu, Illena, Prakashraj and Shayaji Shinde (directed by Puri Jaganath) is doing a brisk business wherever it has been screened.

The Tamil version would be directed by choreographer-actor-director Prabhudeva, pitting Asin opposite Vijay.

Dwelling further, Vijay said that Pokiri means mischevious, an individual with his prankish ways. 'It is my long cherished dream to dance for a song choreographed Prabhudeva. I am lucky to feature in a full length film to be directed by him'.

Having seen Teluge movies like Nuvvastanantae Nenodantana directed by Prabhudeva, Vijay sounded confident of a quality entertainer from the dancing wizard.

A man of few words, Prabhudeva said, Pokiri would be certainly different from the original and appease the fans of Vijay. Neccessary adjustments in the script will be made, keeping a different audience in mind.'

Asin, who plays the role of an aerobics instructor, said she looked forward to the film, 'with a good role to perform.'

The cast includes Prakashraj, Vadivelu, Nasser and Nepolean. Music is by Manisharma. Produced by Ramesh Babu of Sri Kanaka Rathna Movie, the film is to hit the floors 1 July and planned for a Pongal release.

Pokiri announced! Vijay’s father offers prayers at temples!!
June 13, 2006
www.behindwoods.com

Much awaited Ilayathalapathi’s Pokiri was officially launched yesterday in Chennai. At the simple event, the lead pair of Vijay, Asin and Prabhudeva were at their relaxed best. Asin was her charming self in a stunning pair of jeans and light colored tops. Vijay looked every bit the dashing hero while Prabudeva himself looked as fresh as he was a decade ago. May be the success of his Telugu ventures had added glitter to his eyes.

A lot is riding on the slender shoulders of Vijay. After the lukewarm response to Aadhi, which was a remake of the Telugu hit Athanukode, everyone went about guessing that Vijay would no more do remakes. But, as Puli and Murasu did not take off, he thought it fit to get back to good films irrespective of whether they are remakes or not. So, Pokiri was chosen by him and he invited Prabudeva to be the director.

Meanwhile, Vijay’s father SAC conducted special puja at the Sri Arunachaleswarar Temple in Tiruvannamalai. On Saturday night, which was the full moon day, which is an auspicious occasion for the presiding deity there, he spent a full hour before the Lord seeking his blessings. He also prayed at the Sacred Church at Velankanni. We hope that a father’s prayers for his son are answered. Good luck, Vijay!

Pokiri` launched!

By Moviebuzz Tuesday, 13 June , 2006, 10:25

Finally the wait is over. Producer Ramesh Babu launched the Tamil version of the Telugu super hit Pokiri at his cramped office in T.Nagar, Chennai. Vijay, Asin the lead pair along with director Prabhu Deva were present.

When questioned on why he took such a big gap between his last release and this film he said: "I went through many scripts and finally when I saw Pokiri, I was impressed and thought that it had the material for a remake". Vijay also added that some minor nativity changes will be made to suit his image. He was also confident that Prabhu Deva who did Nuvvostante Nendotanna one of his all-time favourite movies will do a great job and the film will please his fans.

And at last Asin is doing a Tamil films after a gap of almost eight months and is happy to be apart of this Vijay film. Prabhu Deva expressed his happiness in doing this film with Vijay with whom he will be trying out some new dance numbers.

Mani Sharma is the music director of the film which will have its original title Pokiri in Tamil.

It’s official! Vijay’s Pokiri announced!!

June 12, 2006

Fans of Vijay can at last heave a sigh of relief. Their idol’s movie ‘Pokiri’, a film signed after a lot of deliberations, is finally getting launched today. The launch function is expected to be a simple event but, as can be expected from a movie that has a hero like ‘Ilaya Thalapathi’, this one too has generated a lot of buzz even before the first shot has been canned.

With ‘Pokiri’, Prabhu Deva is too making his debut as a director in Tamil films. So far, he has making people dance to his tunes only for the songs. This time around, he can make the artistes dance for the entire length of the film.Who is the heroine? Trisha, Ileana and a few names were doing the rounds, but the one to make the final round was Asin. Mani Sharma will be scoring the music. The movie is being produced by Ramesh Babu, who has bagged the Tamil remake rights against stiff competition.

So, the lead pair from ‘Sivakasi’ is back and if the original of ‘Pokiri’ is any indication, then we are in for a cracker of a treat from the Vijay, Asin and Prabhu Deva team.

Postscript: As readers might be aware, Vijay was issued warrant by the Arcot court for not appearing relating to the cases filed against him. Our Galatta.com users may remember the breaking news that the Advocate's Committee had filed a case against the team of the movie Sivakasi - Producer A.M Rathnam, Director Perarasu, Illayathalapathy Vijay and Comedian Baskar - for showing some scenes in the movie which they felt was derogatory to the community of advocates.

Following this, the same 4 people yesterday have allegedly been issued arrest warrants in this issue; and that they have to appear at a particular date at the Arcot Court with respect to these proceedings.

However, Director Perarasu has denied any such incident and said that no one has been issued any such arrest warrant regarding this issue.

Let us wait and see whether the news is true or not.

Vijay in problem again

The aura around actor Vijay is so gloomy and dark. He has been keeping a low profile ever since his much talked-about film "Aathi" failed terribly at the box-office. Even as he is trying to come out of the trouble, another fresh problem has cribbed in.

The actor was planning to remake Telugu film "Bangaram" in Tamil and succeeded in keeping it away from Chennai audience. However, the film unfortunately bombed at the theatres and he dropped his plans of remaking it. He again decided to come out of the trouble by remaking Telugu hit film "Pokiri" to be directed by Prabhu Deva. However, a new peculiar problem has diverted his attention.

"Pokiri" had done very well in Chennai city and the audience is familiar with it. The actor has failed to check the film like he did to "Bangaram". So, he is in dilemma whether to go ahead with his plans or drop it.

Vijay script for Mahesh Babu

June 08, 2006
www.behindwoods.com

An actor of Vijay's stature brings in with him a lot of expectation, a lot of speculation on his next venture and a lot of enthusiasm with every film. All the more reason why he takes so much care in choosing his scripts.

Vijay is in the process of listening to many stories from leading directors in the industry, and the story that appealed to him most was by director Vishnuvardhan, who recently directed the successful Pattiyal.

But since Vijay is currently busy discussing for Pokiri with Prabhu Deva, Vishnuvardhan checked with Vijay if he could direct the approved story in Telugu with Mahesh Babu, who is one of the reigning stars of Tollywood. Vijay was more than happy to oblige as, in a way, it safeguards his interests also. If the film clicks in Telugu, then it can be remade in Tamil. If not, it needn't be made at all. A safe bet for Vijay we think and one that works for the actor and the filmmaker as well.

Coming back to Vishnuvardhan's film, it is said that Mahesh Babu and the director are very good friends and were actually college mates. Once Mahesh Babu finishes his present commitments, he will begin work on this film with Vishnuvardhan.

Asin: Choice of both Vijay and Ajith?

June 08, 2006
www.behindwoods.com

She is no doubt the darling of the producers in Kollywood and Tollywood. But, she likes to project a cool image by being choosy about the projects she would like to work on. She had been committed for the Tamil remake of Pokiri. Ilaya Thalapathi Vijay would be the hero and Prabudeva would be the director.

While initially there was news that she would indeed be the heroine after the smashing success of Sivakasi, there was suddenly buzz that Ileana would replace her.

But, when contacted, Asin said, "I know that there have been reports that I would be working in the Pokiri remake. The details are still being finalized and I have not yet signed the project.

Therefore, Ileana replacing me as the heroine is not something about which I know. You should ask the producer. Besides, I have also been approached for Ajith's next film and I am thinking about that film as well".

She sure is as cool as cucumber when handling offers from two happening stars of Tamil industry.

Prabhu Deva debuts as a Director

IndiaGlitz
[Thursday, June 08, 2006]

The remake of the blockbuster "Pokiri" (Telugu movie) in the Tamil will have actor and choreographer Prabhu Deva wielding the megaphone.

It is going to have actor Vijay as the hero in the film.

This will be the debut of Prabhu Deva as a director in the Tamil Film Industry.

Vijay's dilemma

IndiaGlitz [Thursday, June 08, 2006]

Vijay's barren run does not seem to have ended.

After Aathi, the actor had been keeping a very low profile. He did not accept any new movie after that.

Then, following some hectic discussions, he has agreed to do the Tamil remake of the Telugu hit Pokiri.

The Tamil movie is set to be directed by Prabhu Deva.

The problem now is that the Telugu original itself has run well in Chennai and has been quite popular among Tamil audiences too.

Vijay was successful in keeping Bangharam, a Telugu film that he was keen on remaking in Tamil, away from Chennai.

But the film failed and seems a non-starter in Tamil now.

But with Pokiri, things are different.

Asin out, Ileana in?

After lot of contemplation, Vijay has finally agreed to star in the Tamil remake of ‘Pokiri’. There now seems to be a problem with the heroine.

Tamil actor Vijay’s next film is going to be the Tamil remake of Mahesh Babu’s ‘Pokiri’. The film’s name is going to be ‘Pokiri’ too. Initially there were talks that Asin was going to be his heroine in the film. But, it looks as if Vijay isn’t going to give up so easily.

Initially, Vijay was very much keen on bringing Malayalam actress Bhavana in the role. But she couldn’t set her callsheets aside. So, for a while, it looked as if he might settle for Asin.

Now, Vijay is pressurizing his producer to approach Ileana for the role. And, as luck might have it, Ileana is very much willing to work with him.

So, if things work out fine, then Asin will be out of the film and Ileana will step in as the new heroine. This will be Ileana’s second film in Tamil. The Tamil version of ‘Jadoo’ is her debut film in Kollywood.

Vijay offered 8 crores

Vijay

Vijay who has always been playing safe when selecting movies has a very strong reason for doing so. “I will have to think about the Producer, distributor, exhibitor and all the crew members of the movie I am involved in. I have to consider about all the people involved when experimenting.”

So does actors like Vikram and Surya who do a lot of experimentation do not think about these people, ask a certain group in Kodambakkam about Vijay’s reasoning. But Vijay’s loyalist defends their idol by saying, “Vijay’s movies are sold at a higher price compared to other actors. Risk involved is more….” The actor’s movies are easily sold for 4 to 4.5 crores in Chennai-Chengalpet area. This is next only to Superstar’s movies.

In the meantime, an unnamed producer approached Vijay and offered 8 crores for a project with him. Vijay was stunned and kindly refused the offer made to him. He felt, taking up the movie for eight crores is again putting lot of risk and pressure on the various people involved in the film making. Presently he gets anywhere from three to three and half crores for a movie.

`Pokiri` creates problems for Vijay!

Mahesh Babu’s and his Telugu film Pokiri is creating a new box-office record in Chennai. But one person who is unhappy about it is our ‘Ilayathalapathy’ Vijay who is remaking the film in Tamil. Remember that producer Ramesh has brought the remake rights of Pokiri for Vijay, which will be directed by Prabhu Deva and the film is scheduled to start on June 22 in Chennai.

Mahesh Babu is currently the number one hero in Tollywood and he has a huge fan base among ladies and youth in Chennai as he had his early education here. The film has netted nearly Rs 40 Lakhs from Jayaprada theatre in Chennai in 35 days, truly amazing!

Ramesh had brought the Pokiri rights from its Telugu producers on May 3 and since then Vijay has been trying his level best to stop the screening of the film in Chennai. But Jayaprada theatre who has the distribution rights of the film in Tamilnadu refused, saying that they had paid Rs 15 Lakhs for the rights!

Usually, when a Telugu remake is brought by a Tamil producer, the screening of the original is stopped. Remember that Dharani’s Bangaram did not open in Chennai for the simple reason that Vijay was remaking the film, after producer Swargachitra Appachan brought the remake rights from A.M.Ratnam.

But in the case of Pokiri, the Telugu producers had already sold the theatrical rights of Tamilnadu before release and the remake rights was purchased by Ramesh only after the film was released and declared a hit. Meanwhile Mahesh Babu fans in Chennai are also refusing to stop the screening of the film as they say that the film has to celebrate 100 days, a rare feat for a Telugu film in Chennai!

Meanwhile Ramesh and Vijay are worried that more and more people are watching Pokiri including Vijay fans. Now they are paranoid that there will be no surprises for them when the Tamil remake hits the screens.

Vijay – the Complete Man

June 03, 2006
www.behindwoods.com

Illaya Thalapathi Vijay, is not only a successful actor, but quite the family man too!

On the days he has no shooting, Vijay is a home bird, preferring to spend quality time with his family. And that means, playing with his son and daughter.

If you his fight sequences on screen, his agile dance movements and risky stunts regaled you the most, his daughter, Divya Sha Sha, just prefers his impromptu elephant back rides in the garden. His son, Jason Sanjay on the other hand, likes his dad to teach him cycling inside the compound.

Vijay also has footage of his son crawling and then graduating to walking, all memories safely captured in his video camera. Now, he spends a lot of time with Divya Sha Sha and has even recorded her baby talk in his mobile, which incidentally is his ring tone!

On the career front, he is eagerly waiting for Prabhu Deva to return from Spain, who is currently choreographing the song sequences for the Superstar starrer, Sivaji.

Prabhu Deva will be making the Tamil version of the hugely successful Telugu film Pokiri, with Vijay in the lead, and the film is said to hit the screens for Diwali.

Vijay under Selvaraghavan's direction

- 02.06.2006
www.cinesouth.com

Selvaraghavan has expressed his desire to make films with Vijay, Jothika, Meera Jasmine and Vijayakanth. By the year end, two of his wishes will be fulfilled.

Vijay who has been careful after his market became dull, is to act first in the Tamil re-make of the Telugu hit `Pokkiri' directed by Prabhu Deva. This will be followed by the film directed by
Selvaraghavan to be started sometime in September.

Selvaraghavan usually takes a few months off after making one film. But he's now the opposite. He's taken off for Hyderabad after `Pudupettai' for shooting a film featuring Venkatesh. Jyotika
is the heroine of the film. "I will complete the film in 3 months and then start shooting for Vijay's film in September," he says. Lakshmi Movie Makers who has to drag along 2 years for the making of `Pudupettai' are sure to be aggravated by this sudden speed of Selva.

A Vijay film always runs true to formula with 4 kuthu songs, few punch dialogues and half a dozen fights packed into 14 reels. Selva is a person who dissects everything frame to frame, plus amorous scenes are a definite feature of his films.

How are all these going to combine? Even as the film has just been announced, one is already eagerly awaiting it!

It’s official. Selva and Vijay to team up!!!

June 02, 2006

Although the box office reports of the much awaited and much hyped Puduppettai are not very encouraging, its director Selvaraghavan has been creating ripples. Apart from the superb technical credits in Puduppettai, a lot is expected about his forthcoming projects and of course some announcement about his marriage.

Well, folks for all of you who are wondering what are Selva’s next films. The first one would be a Telugu film with Venkatesh and Jyothika in Telugu for which work will start shortly. And then comes the big one. He has planned to launch a film with Ilaya Thalapati Vijay in the lead.

This film would start in September and hit the screens by coming Pongal or Tamil New Year. The Vijay film is expected to be a watershed for both as an established hero pairs up with a very talented and introverted director.

As for marriage, he has confirmed that it would definitely be after Vijay film. So, a lot happening for Selva on the professional and personal front.

Wedding bells, finally

IndiaGlitz
[Friday, June 02, 2006]

It seems director Selvaraghavan and Sonia Agarwal have finally decided to enter wedlock. The latter introduced by Selva in Kadhal Kondein was romantically linked with the director.

Though a section of the press had carried reports about the two getting married, the two often denied them. Meanwhile, Sonia Agarwal had reportedly not accepted any new offers for she was preparing herself for the wedding.

Finally, Selvaraghavan broke his silence on Thursday. The director, taking part in a function organized to mark the D-Cinema release of his latest offing Pudhupettai, said he would marry Sonia Agarwal this October. He said, 'after the wedding, I would direct a movie featuring
Vijay in the lead role'.

It may be recalled that Dhanush (Selvaraghavan's brother) had married Aishwarya Rajinikanth, daughter of Rajinikanth, last year.
