Pokkiri was the remake of the hugely Telugu of the same name. The Telugu version starred Mahesh Babu and Ileana in the lead roles. It was also Prabhu Deva's first effort as a director in Tamil. Starring Vijay and Asin, it was a faithful remake, and the biggest box office success of 2007 after Sivaji.
