Vijay thanks his fans for their support to his films
Pondicherry: It was a lightning visit but still his frenzied fans waved and shouted with great joy at the mere sight of their hero. The star of "Sivakasi", "Thirupachi" and "Aadhi" and the hero of 465 fan clubs in Pondicherry, "Ilaya Thalapathi" Vijay spoke but a few words on Sunday evening at the Anna Thidal and that gave a tough time for policemen managing the crowd at the venue. The huge crowd tried to jump over chairs and barricades to have a closer glimpse of their super star.
Clad in an orange striped top and black trousers, Vijay clambered up the stairs to the dais with a spring in his walk and smiled and waved to the fans. Vijay was here to distribute assistance, including a boat, a tricycle and also to celebrate the birthday of orphaned children. But he couldn't do so due to "certain reasons".
In his short speech, Vijay thanked his fans for their support to his films. Before coming to Pondicherry, Vijay opened a bus shelter in Padhirikuppam in Cuddalore, which was installed on behalf of a Vijay Rasigar Mandram there. "We couldn't distribute the aids because the elections are just round the corner and it would seem inappropriate at this time. But we will be giving them away after the elections", said Bussy Anand, president of the Pondicherry State Vijay Fan Clubs Association.
"Even during the tsunami the fan clubs extended all the help they could. Vijay was here in Pondicherry and he gave away 23 boats and nets. We had also constructed some temporary shelters for those affected in the tsunami", he added.
